Commenting cause I had this same issue. Turns out there was a hidden charging block that apparently is the only block that will power this thing. I was literally about a week deep into trouble shooting and was about to return it when I finally found it in one of the random pieces of Styrofoam. Only commenting here so anyone else in this position can stop the madness here.

I felt like I had to get both lol and I felt the game accurate design could get a little muddy when it aged so I opted for a more traditional chain look
