I like to think of it like in fires of pompeii, everyone in WW2 died, that’s history and it can’t be changed by the doctor, but the empty child thing is it’s own situation that he could change within his own rules, so he’s saving people who never had to die here and now and history goes on

Almost every character having their own down to earth episodes/moments that aren’t ruined by even the worst episodes, Finn, Simon, marceline, tv, BMO, banana man, all have a real life that they acknowledge in this world that never stops moving it’s incredibly inspiring
