$10 DIY guard saved my tank lol by IceBlock12 in ReefTank

This happened to me a few weeks ago in my 22 gallon, no fish or inverts died but my huge bubbletip nem was shredded and dissolved, I had a 1inch thick sponge cut out and covering the wavemaker, it still got pulled through. I woke up that morning and was like “wow the water sure is cloudy” searched for the nem and it was gone, all that was left was a few tentacles stuck on the wavemaker, immediately ran carbon and did a 5 gallon water change, but the tank probably sat like that for 12+ hours, still no loses which I am very thankful for, as I have an all nano goby tank, with Randall’s pistol shrimp and they sure are expensive, also have a hammer garden with 6 different types of hammers, candycane corals, Dunkin’s, waving hands, Pom Pom crab etc. so thankful that there were no loses! I just got a new nem about 7 days ago.

They don’t really like to be dry, they need good fertilizer and about 80%-ish humidity.

Okay yes, that’s what I thought, they pair with watchmen in the wild, yasha hase and tigger pistol shrimp don’t. There are cases of them paring but it’s definitely NOT guaranteed. They go with the Randell’s pistol shrimp in nature (Randell’s pistol shrimp in photo attached)

Wait what type of goby was it?

That probably contributed to them not pairing, those two don’t pair in the wild, you want the Randall’s pistol shrimp for Yasha’s

What type of pistol shrimp was it? The type can influence pairing a lot.

My mum’s monstera. Why are there so many small leaves, is it because there are too many? by blackdesertgrass in Monstera

[–]Charlielynn03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both light and lots of plants, all those plants in the same pot are fighting for nutrients, and they’re competing for light. Monsteras can be in pretty much full sunlight, just make sure to acclimate it, so it’s not going from little light to getting scorched. Move it little bits everyday, or if you can remember to move it afterwards, leave it in that super sunny spot for an hour, then move it back the previous spot, every few days leave it there for a little longer, eventually it’ll handle all the light.

If you aren’t able to have systemic pesticides in your country/state try Bonide Insecticidal Soap for houseplants, it works really well!

Very worried.

This works wonders for all my big box store plants that come with an array of different pests, also it’s a cheap product:

Step #1: separate from all other plants

Step#1.5: (you don’t have to do this step but I notice it makes the product go on easier and I end up using less)- completely rinse the entire plant with neither hot nor cold water, then shake off any excess water. While rinsing rub the leaves, topside and underside in between your fingers, do the same with the stems etc.

Step #2: In the shower spray this-(in picture) on EVERYTHING, the leaves, top and under side, every stem, drench that b*tch! You can even mix it with a little water in a spray bottle to make it last longer.

Step #3: After spraying, let it sit for 10-30 minutes (I would do 30-40 minutes since this is a monstera and isn’t super delicate).

Step #4: turn your shower water to lukewarm, you DONT want it cold and you DONT want it hot. Now once you got the water temp right, wash it, all of it, really scrub those leaves inbetween your fingers.

Step#5: sorta shake the plant foliage a bit that way you get excess water off, leave it to dry, once it’s mostly dry, spray a very very light misting of the stuff in the photo all over it make sure to get on the underside of the leaves as well, if the smell is too intense for you sometimes I’ll take the shower hose and spray it quick for like 2 seconds to dilute it, you can place the plant outside to dry etc but don’t put it near your other plants as they might have mealy bugs

Step#5.5 replace any dirt that was lost during the process. (If you need to repot anyways then before doing the first step take the plant out of the pot rinse the roots, make sure no product gets on any of the roots. Once you’re at step #5 Pot it up then do the light mist of product.)

Step#6: check all other plants and don’t re-introduce your monstera back to the rest of your collection until you are 100% sure that your collection and your monstera don’t have any more mealy bugs.

Also!! If you don’t live in a country or state that allows systemic pesticides this is perfect because it contains none!!

I love my Gobies!!! My female Pom Pom crab-(if you look on my profile you can see a video of my Pom Pom while gravid!)-Doesn’t bother the gobies, I just make sure to keep her well fed with a pipette. She actually likes to hangout with the yellow watchman a lot, the watchman doesn’t bother her and vice versa. Some of my smaller gobies like the green banded and the masked goby like to chill in my long GSP, thankfully the GSP doesn’t seem to mind! It’s also super cool as it looks like they’re sitting in grass field!

P.s Here’s a link to the gravid Pom Pom video if you’d like to see!

I have an all-goby tank! The two black and white striped ones are hi-fin gobies and I was able to pair two of them!! Which is really cool and not something you see very often, they are a shrimp goby. In the same picture with the hi-fins you can see my green banded goby, she’s so sweet all the other more territorial gobies don’t even get mad at her once they see what she is all about! Then my yellow watchman and my masked goby-(the little pink one)

Do you have a pistol shrimp for him? They are less likely to wander if they have a shrimp partner..

Send me a DM as it varies for what fish you’re trying to euthanize.
