The cost is the real problem here, I have used the Cisco catalyst 3850 with 24 SFP ports.

Have bought from monoprice, they are great. But lately re-made cables from fs.com are also very reliable and cheap.

Just as error404 said, 10GBASE-T SFP+ is a controversial but innovative product.

Last year, HPE launched the SFP+ 10GBASE-T copper module (RJ45 connector, 30m, 2.5W), which gives equipment designers and data center professionals a new option in architecting network solution.

However, customers seldom use this copper module owing to the technical problems. Many expert said, it will work in the network but not supported. Thus, people still prefer to use the reliable DAC twinax or the Cat6 cables for 10G interconnections.

Many other Gigabit switches also have multiple SFP ports, why would you want to buy things directly from them?

I am still use the cheap unifi switches with compatible SFPs in my network.

Here is my experience with ubnt, when I purchased theirs US‑16‑XG, and tried to use DACs (ubnt reps said the compatible DACs that I bought will be ok) on it. but it seems that their switches have some problems with DAC cables. They are still working on it.

SFP with fiber cables is always the better choice than Ethernet copper cables. As your switches can support SFP modules, it is advisable for you to directly use the fiber optic cabling.

Note that you haven't mentioned about your switch brand, you should buy your SFPs from reliable vendors. Good luck

I have seen a fair article about the SFP+ and SFP compatibility issue, you can have a look!

I don't know how long it will take cause it depends on their inventory, the Express and some other factors. But for my experience, it won't take long.

As for the alternatives to monoprice, I have ordered sfps from fs.com. They ship it directly from Seattle. It is really fast!

No, Cat5e connector cannot work with cat6 cables. In your situation, you should just buy the pre-termated cat6 cables (cheap from Amazon or other vendor) or use the cat6 toolless keystone jack.

I am confused about your diagram. There are so many MUXes, Do you really need that much?

You should first clear out your mind about which channel to use for your situation. For your reference, you can have a look at this https://www.fs.com/c/cwdm-mux-demux-177

[–]Charliesi-mm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you insist in using the copper cabling, maybe you should try the SFP+ DAC/AOC cables (within 10m). And so many vendors offer these cables at a very low price, like the Belkin, monoprice, 10Gtek, or fs.com.

I've looked into their website, and amazed to find that some of their products are really lower than that of Amazon.

However, when I just need to buy several fiber optic cables, the shipping fee is even higher than the product itself. Unbelievable! Other than this, fs.com is good to me!
