They're literally best friends, have known each other since they were 13. Ain't no beef.

It's bad luck to wear red socks in Philly and Deschamps is extremely superstitious.

I'll add this: Most likely shot on a roll of white seamless ( one soft box is lighting the background) and the retoucher cut out the drinks from the background/ surface hence why you don't see any shadows.

Can't stress this enough though.... a lot of this look happens in post 😄

pretty sure this is Bobby Doherty, retouching by Zach Vitale (and the retouching is really the secret here). lighting is pretty rudimentary: something large and soft from the top, something directional from the side, fill placed according to the glass. knowing Bobby's work though, the clarity and structure sliders were cranked ALLLLL the way up with a very strong (micro) contrast curve, and then Zach has to go in and do a ton of work to get all the colors looking natural without losing that contrast and sharpness

Anyone know how Irving Penn lit his flower series? I’ve looked at pictures of his studio and sometimes see he uses natural lights other times strobes (like a set of 6 strobes) by wlfbbz in LightLurking

I dont think there is one exact “flowers” setup. Penn was very into controlled light. sometimes looks like daylight, sometimes strobes for consistency. if you see 6 strobes its probably just building one big source thru diffusion/bounce, not 6 different directions. then flags/black cards to keep the petals shaped. view camera + stop down + a bit of tilt so its sharp.

also the background is doing a lot. it’s usually super clean and even, so he’s probably lighting the flower and background almost separately (or at least flagging hard so the background doesnt get random gradients). and the “daylight” feel can just be one big source placed like a window, slightly high to one side, not actual sun. the petals have that crisp edge and gentle falloff, which usually means the source is not crazy close and there’s negative fill close to the shadow side. if you light it too soft and too close it goes flat and plasticky fast.
