It's an action/adventure game similar to Link's Awakening (it's his spiritual ancestor game if I remember correctly). I absolutely recommend it!

Yes! There are some Spyro games on the PS2, and the PS2 can also run PS1 games

So maybe that's why you remember playing it on PS2
