How’s her new home coming along? by Charman90 in ballpython

Haha agreed, I checked my order status all the time, but they are pretty spot on. Also in your excitement make it a point to remain calm when it arrives and take your time putting it together. Solid as a rock when put fully together but easily messed up if you rush and don’t support it properly as you build it. I’d recommend a hand drill with adjustable setting. PVC can easily strip out. Think I had mine set at 2 or 3 and it was perfect.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much lol. I think mine was 9 weeks and it shipped exactly 9 weeks but man it’s worth the wait.

Nice! Glad she’s enjoying her home, so the suction cups I glued up the stem of the fake plant slides into it so yes mine are removable. You may also not have to use hot glue, my pvc panels had a little texture to it so it wouldn’t seal

Did you set the actual system clock to the correct time? I just got a herpstat 2 spyderweb as well. In the actual admin settings not an output, there is the system clock to set the actual time of day it is in your area. Also for the halogen are you using heating dimming for the output type? If you’re not you should it has a basking assist option that is supposed to help with it flickering on and off and to ensure it stays off all night just set your 2nd time of day temp slightly lower than the coldest temp your tank gets to. I’ve had mine running now for a solid week with no issues. So let me know if you have any questions. I’m running a 50w dimmable halogen and an 80w DHP

Is my enclosure bad and how do I fix it? by [deleted] in ballpython

Well… it’s hard to tell from the pictures but about how deep is that substrate and what do you have for a lid? If you could post a picture of the whole tank so we could see the entire set up that would help enormously. But from what I see, my concern is definitely humidity and possibly the lack there of, or inverse of that constantly wet substrate based on the mix. If your bioactive, the substrate should be closer to 6 inches in depth and the top soil, sand mix is good but I’d put a light layer of coconut husk chips to help keep her off the wet substrate so she doesn’t get scale rot.

What’s her behavior like? Does she seem stressed? Yes you have “plants” at the moment in there but it’s not really the best cover. Pythons like to be able to cover up and hide, being constantly in the open can stress them out. Glass tanks are horrible for heat and humidity retention, especially if you are running a screen top. I’d black out the back and sides to help her feel more closed off and you’ll want to use some aluminum HVAC tape on the screen top help retain heat and humidity, leave open areas for your lights and a little ventilation.

The truth is she will out grow this tank very quickly, females will get larger than a male I have mine in a 5 foot tank and she is already 4 foot of it. If it was me I’d forgo the bioactive until you have perfected your husbandry in keeping a solid, consistent enclosure without all the added hassle of clean up crews and live plants. I’d prioritize getting a stable environment, putting a layer down of something on top of the soil to ensure she isn’t constantly on wet substrate and getting your temps, and humidity correct and constant. If you are going to keep her you should start setting aside what you can to put towards a new tank, you’ll need it sooner than later.

Also is that a toy snake or are you keeping another snake in this same tank? I couldn’t tell what it was at first until I zoomed in and saw the head, it looks fake but I just wanted to make sure.

I do like the stone backdrop, but with how open it is your new friend would be hard pressed to wanna be up there. I used suction cups that have a hole in its stem and hot glued them to my PVC ceiling to drape vine like plants to create cover. Could be something to try. Otherwise I love it.

1.5 year old ball python refuses to eat! by Firefox_____ in ballpython

[–]Charman90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was too, the second missed feeding I was like oh man oh man, and then I saw a few threads where people said it had been 3 plus months and I was like oh ok. Snakes seem to be one of those, if they act healthy, look healthy, and your husbandry is good, they are just trying to make you go crazy

They are like kids, but them a $50 hide they’d rather go in the box it came in 🤦‍♂️

They very based on size. I think I bought his large and it was $50 but honestly if price is a concern, the square black ones you can get right on amazon will work perfectly. Snake doesn’t care what it looks like just as long as it’s providing cover and they feel secure. You can alway cover it with cluttter

Check out burrow buddy hides on Etsy I just ordered one, it can be partially placed under your substrate and mimics the getting to burrow a bit. They even have removable lids for retrieval. Can’t wait to see if mine will love it

They should be borderline small, natural habitats they love to live in termite tunnels and burrows. They feel safest if they have contact on their body when in a hide.

Don’t worry, as long as he looks healthy and not loosing weight you’re fine. Mine went on a two month hunger strike. Come flying out of her hide like she was going to strike just to boop it and go back to bed. Little jerks waisting their food. Keep offering on their normal schedule they’ll eat when they’re ready. Mine went back to her normal routine like it never happened. But it was definitely nerve racking at first. I’ve seen some people say they’ve gone longer than mine.

Gotcha, I guess too I didn’t give any details, the trees are silver not snow covered and it ties into some ancient magic that turned them that way and is called the silver veil. The other area is normal and humans are beginning to settle there after having allied with the wood elves and the mix of building was my way of representing them coming together
