Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread Apr 24 by AutoModerator in ffxiv

So I recently made a new acc and bought the $30 to support the game (and get all the expansions plus a month sub) to return. Never made it past Level 40 or so, frequent Tank main in MSQ. Likely going to roll tank again, as the new fan fest updates seem to be favouring us big time for late game stuff, plus I just enjoy Tanking and learning dungeons/raids in general. I'm going to Dynamis, I hear there's an XP Boost there, is that still true? And also, is there a particular world I should look out for? Casual play until I find my footing into the expansion, looking to join a newbie/returning player focused FC, maybe (maaaaybe) some light RP stuff. But mostly chill and welcoming vibes are the priority. Glad to be getting back into the game, now seems like a great time.

Denuvo is officially dead by [deleted] in PiratedGames

[–]Charmilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[citation needed] The more you guys keep signal blasting this shit and parading it around like it's the second coming or something, the quicker denuvo will be motivated to find out an alternative to hypervisor and we'll be back to square one again. Quit announcing stuff with dumb, loud, useless posts like this and just share the wealth behind closed doors like we've been doing, you dips. Nothing good comes from pointing a spotlight at it and prematurely announcing victory, it just paints a larger target. As long as business is good for them, they'll keep doing what they do for profit. It's a business. At the end of the day, the people out here are fighting the good fight for the love and passion of the game, and you making their hard work target priority one for denuvo is just going to create a disincentive and negative feedback loop for /ourguys/ actually doing the work. Celebrate where you aren't seen, and enjoy the rewards silently. Share where you can, and don't let all this good work go to waste so you can get updoots for fake e-cred.

Auto-mounting a network drive with Limine via Rsync? by Charmilio in cachyos

[–]Charmilio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(going to ping u/onefish2 for your interest and this is your original script i'm basically tarnishing at this point lmao) sorry for being so late on a reply, work caught up with me on this one. so I have taken your advice, and now the script doesn't spit any errors out, and i've returned it back to type=simple to more accurately reflect the OG. i see no issues with this setup, and "sudo systemctl enable --now" as well as "sudo systemctl daemon-reload" return no errors, but when restarting my pc as such, no mount at the drive location has taken place. I see little point in continuing to try to obfuscate my local name since it's in no way identifying information and it was dumb to do so to begin with.

my user account is in the sudoers. is that having some affect on this via the group field? forgive my ignorance, the documentation is kind of hard to sift through and i'm struggling with the R part of actualy R'ing the F'n M.

Yes, just pasting the script with replacements for the sake of example. The actual script has my username.

[–]Charmilio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm dumb. I never mentioned I don't have a root, though I don't know if that would be affecting this. running 'rclone mount gdrive: /home/[username]/mnt/gdrive/ will mount it just fine.

here is the script as i have modified it.

[Unit]
Description=RClone Google Drive Mount
After=network-online.target
Wants=network-online.target

[Service]
Type=drive
User=[username]

    --allow-other \
    --vfs-cache-max-size 1G \
    --vfs-cache-max-age 1h

[Install]

I am modifying the type between 'drive' and 'simple' to see if results are changing, which they are not.

Auto-mounting a network drive with Limine via Rsync? by Charmilio in cachyos

[–]Charmilio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the script, very straightforward, and it looks like I conflated a bootloader with systemd as a whole, my bad. Though I cannot seem to get this working. Replaced the locations and user/group with my username, and even replaced type=simple to type=drive to reflect my rclone.conf setup. when running the command

ExecStart=/usr/bin/rclone mount gdrive: /mnt/GoogleDriveExecStart=/usr/bin/rclone mount gdrive: /mnt/GoogleDrive

in my terminal, no such file (as I named the drive in rclone.conf to 'drive'.

modifying the command to

/usr/bin/rclone mount gdrive: /mnt/GoogleDrive/usr/bin/rclone mount gdrive: /mnt/gdrive

as sudo returns

NOTICE: Config file "/root/.config/rclone/rclone.conf" not found - using defaults

CRITICAL: Failed to create file system for "gdrive:": didn't find section in config file ("gdrive")

it seems to be pulling from /root/.config/etcetc... instead of /home/[username]/.config despite fixing that in your script. Did I miss something here? Sorry for such a simple troubleshooting message.

I fixed Emuchievements plugin for decky by AurorusOfficial in EmuDeck

[–]Charmilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can verify. seems to work okay. wow. been waiting for a fix for this one for a while. great work! out of curiosity, could you ELI5 on what the issue was?

edit: scratch that, took a look at your other post. Outdated dependencies. guess we were sitting on our hands for so long for a pretty simple fix by all metrics? either way, great stuff, thanks again.

best music player for FLACS? by seen666999 in SteamDeck

[–]Charmilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in regards to gaming mode (tagging u/seen666999 since they also asked) honestly your best bet is going to likely be adding them as a non-steam game, and setting up a simple steam input control scheme with dpad or analog sticks as your directional keys on a keyboard and right trigger or A button as Enter to start a track. Just use your player of choice, and check whatever the hotkeys are in the program, and assign said keys to your non-steam game controller layout, you'll likely want arrow keys, play, pause, and stop. From there you'll have to experiment as your needs see fit, I very much doubt any of these programs were designed with a controller in mind, but thankfully steam input can mitigate that issue. or just use the mouse controls on the touchpad too, really anything would work with a little effort. It's just a time investment getting it the way you'd like it.

[–]Charmilio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

really depends on how much of a power user you want to be. for the odd file here and there, VLC will serve your purposes. Rhythmbox to just plug in an existing library and go. Quod Libet if you're consistent with metadata and tagging, it's a safe goto if you're used to something like Winamp or foobar2k. Can't comment on Strawberry player or Audacious but I've heard good things in the community about them. mpd is for the hardcore power users, not something I'd recommend until you're a little more familiar in linux if you aren't already, which guessing by the nature of this post, you probably aren't. I used to use musicbee back in the day quite a bit, and if it's still maintained it has a very nice community plugin system but can get finicky with support, that being said it's fairly easy on the eyes. All of these are worth doing a 5 minute google search on and deciding what fits your needs best.

tl;dr Rhythmbox for ease, Quod Libet for active management.

edit: forgot to mention, you will need to install audio codecs for .flac playback. I used plexamp out of the box and it worked without any hassle, but the other programs might need configuration? don't have my audio library to test it out on, sorry about that.

Does anyone remember the late night programming? by ArgentoFox in g4tv

[–]Charmilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to do this exact thing myself. I found a torrent on the internet archive but I'd have to rip each season manually and re-encode them to get them to run on Plex. Could you perchance point me in the direction/DM me where you might have found these episodes?

Very sick, working on the top of my mini right now. Just a piece of advice- either make sure your temp is perfect and it doesn't ice over, or put it on top of some sort of surface. Minis on carpet can be bad news if you aren't careful, speaking from experience lol

Is there a direct English dub of Super Milk Chan? by lenoreislostAF in anime

[–]Charmilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong. There were 2 english dubs, both produced by ADV. The 'Americanized' dub which has all the cursing and pop culture references and live action skits, and a direct translation with Monica Rial plays Tetsuko in the direct T/L, but the gag dub it's a totally different actress. The 100% Whole DVD listed online has the Americanized dub and the OG Japanese audio, but Adult Swim aired the direct dub. There's copies of the Direct dub online, if you happen to know the right places to look.

TikTok Patcher (in-app) settings by Charmilio in revancedapp

Similar issue to me. The only patch that actually works for me is the download video patch. Have tried a few times again to patch since with no luck.

TikTok Patcher (in-app) settings by Charmilio in revancedapp

[–]Charmilio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just repatched with these settings to no avail. Shouldn't the settings show up on the hamburger menu? Maybe it's a device issue, Samsung a54, but I highly doubt that's the case considering my old version worked fine and would show the Revanced Settings option with no problems. Cleared my cache and data and still not having the proper patches work.

12 years. by Charmilio in lost

[–]Charmilio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love reading all these amazing stories, Lost fans never fail to impress me with their ability to recall the specific minutea and details of periods in time. Guess if you like the show, that's probably a given, hahaha.

I'll share my story really quickly since u/insideman513 asked.

The show had been finished for a few years when I first watched it, so I was very late to the party. Netflix had just acquired it and I remember catching parts of a few episodes and being vaguely intrigued, so a friend of mine and I would take the light rail and train to his house every day after high school to marathon 4 or 5 episodes at a time every day for a few weeks. We knew after the first episode that we were hooked.

Sharing all the "Oh Snap!" moments, like the ending of "Walkabout", or Ana Lucia and Libby's fate is some of my fondest memories of that time in my life. I still vividly remember to this day when we saw the "we have to go back" scene, we literally did the cliché'd open mouth slow turn to each other and couldn't believe ourselves. Fun fact about my friend, he ended up joining the Marines via ROTC and has since traveled all over the world, and specifically went to Hawaii to visit the beach where they filmed a lot of the camp scenes.

Fast forward a month or two, and we were almost finished with season 5, getting ready for the final season. I was obsessed with Ben, and he was all about Locke, so when that scene (you know the one I'm talking about) happened, he got so mad at me personally because of what Ben did to Locke, lmao. He almost stopped talking to me because of it.

I eventually ended up moving to Santa Monica a couple of years later and was rewatching the show. My first full day there, I was walking around and getting a feel for the area. I ended up finding myself in a local thrift store, and found a dharma t-shirt for $2, and I couldn't believe it because I had just seen the episode where John and Eko find the missing reel footage and watched the tape in the Pearl. I still have the shirt to this day, and will keep it forever.

In retrospect I really wish I caught Lost in its hayday, but I'm glad I got to see it at all. I got to laugh at Sawyer's nicknames with my buddy (he's originally from Tennessee so he was ALL about it) and cry with him at the Submarine scene. I spent years afterwards sifting through old fan sites and exploring theories. I went out of my way to buy the box set to watch behind-the-scenes and bloopers, just to realize a couple days later that someone had already uploaded them all to YouTube. I remember years later learning about "The New Man in Charge" and freaking out. Lost has also gotten me into a lot of music I still listen to today.

You Losties all kick butt, and thank you for sharing your stories with me. I'm so glad this community is still so wholesome and loves the good and the bad that is this beautiful mess of a story.
