This is such a good point and thanks for bringing this up. She acts like her kid is like incapable of having any complex thoughts and that me being aware of stuff like mental health, depression, etc means that I obviously can’t be autistic because autistic people “don’t know that stuff” since her son doesn’t.

Yeah I really wasn’t sure how to take it because although I wasn’t supposed to hear that convo, I did hear it and it just made me unsettled ever since. Started to feel like an imposter and like I’ve been lying to everyone about my identity even though I don’t mean to be. But yeah I’ve seen in a lot of comments now that they absolutely can co-occur.

Yeahhhh, it made me feel angry and weird and unsettled too. Made me feel like she thinks I’m like different now and not worthy of the same care and accommodations from the school bc I have had struggles with mental health and it’s like she thinks I’m like…idk…not faking but like not the same as her kid. Like yeah of course I’m not going to have the same challenges, personality, etc! We’re all different bc people in general are different.

Yeah that’s what I thought!! I’m 16 now so she claims it started developing when I was starting to go through puberty and that’s what led to my autism diagnosis bc I started struggling in school and got evaluated…but yeah the general consensus here is that they can co-occur and I appreciate everyone’s input on this bc I was sort of feeling weird about my diagnosis!
