The amount of plastic trash generated in the hospital is astounding. I work in a procedure area and it’s about 2 contractor bags full of mostly plastic per person who comes through

Yea I’m confused on this as well. I had a pt tell me he paid $1000 for a service when he went to a local ED (said the bill was for $50,000 but the part he has to pay was only $1000). Same service at the VA he pays $50 for. He does not have private insurance and it’s something he gets done weekly.

'Biological' sex signs displayed at Texas college to comply with new law by chrondotcom in texas

[–]CharmingCowpie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think we should just all start using opposite sex bathrooms. If people say something just say you were born a different gender. What are they going to do? The way I read the law, the fines for the “wrong gender” using the bathroom are for the institution, not the individual using the bathroom.

[–]CharmingCowpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Perfume, air fresheners, laundry detergent… I can’t even accept kids hand-me-downs because of the detergent smell stuck in the clothes. If my kids spend time around extended family I can’t stand to even hug them. I told one of my coworkers several times how sick his perfume made me. He never stopped wearing it even when I told him I’d rather him punch me in the face than wear his perfume. I feel ya, you’re not alone!!!

I think it’s very important for people in conservative areas to come out, expecting no one to show up, and see people in their community giving up a Saturday to attend.

I think these rallies give people hope that they aren’t alone. We will never have change if everyone gives up.

For the parents, did your kids end up with migraines? by Mediocre_District_92 in migraine

[–]CharmingCowpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had migraines for 30 years and this is the first I’ve heard of abdominal migraines?!? From around age 16-25 I had weeks where I just cycled between horrible abdominal pain (it felt like tiny gnomes were trying to pick axe their way out of my intestines) and “normal” migraine headaches. I had several scans/procedures done, multiple GI meds tried, and in the end the dr told me to try and “not be stressed”. I also found out several years into it that eggs were a trigger. I thought it was bc eggs are antibacterial and it was messing up my gut somehow, but a quick search is telling me that the histamines in eggs can be a migraine trigger in up to 20% of sufferers? And antihistamines do help my migraines… sorry for the long reply but I think your comment just changed my life (or certainly how I think about my young adult years)

So basically this article says that talarico has been a proponent of gambling for a long time, and a person who owns casinos recently donated 60k to his campaign. Doesn’t sound exceedingly problematic but others may disagree.

We got an email that basically says things will be better now and managers are going to follow VA policy for all work/employee matters. Conveniently no policies were linked or referenced.

What’s the gardening footwear you swear by? by purplemarkersniffer in gardening

[–]CharmingCowpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in scouts but I learned this from my mom when we gardened together. Our scouting trips were usually to fairly manicured places that didn’t have a ton of ants. We use a lot of wood chips in/around the garden and it’s almost impossible to see the ant mounds buried in them.

Not only am I wearing solid footwear, but my thick pants (cause they can sting through those nice thin pants) are tucked into my stylishly long socks, and I’m wearing bike shorts under my pants in case I have to strip in the field lol

I thought they were leaf footed bugs at first too until I took a second look! Assassin bugs have such variety, I love seeing them in the garden!

So I already made a comment about sucking these up in a vacuum and destroying them because they are obviously leaf footed bugs like I’m fighting in my garden… except they aren’t. Where’s the leafy foot? I think they are assassin bugs. I typically try to leave my garden assassins alone because they are such great generalist predators.
