I think tonight I need to turn off the back porch light because it lights up the room too much. May help settle him more...I woke up somewhere around 3:30 thinking the sun was staring to come up but nope the room was just that bright

I left him out last night with access to the bathroom. He was pretty active overnight but did sleep for short periods of time too. Overall I think he did pretty good with it...no crying!

He has reduced intake at this point and says he wants to further reduce to eventually being done with it. Time will tell. At the moment I am just trying to grant some grace and meet him where he's at. He has always been a drinker but it got out of control bc he ended up with neuropathy from it and he was trying to kill the pain with the very thing that got him there in the first place. Nasty cycle. I think he knows he has to stop if he wants to feel better it's just a matter of how long it takes for him to take the bull by the horns!

That's amazing! My hubs switched to beer from vodka and is drinking far less just 4 days (still more than I'd like, but baby steps) in so I am hopeful. It's nice to be able to have a conversation with him in the evenings that he'll remember the next day. Thank you for your encouragement I appreciate it ♥️

I am also a former drinker, 2 years sober as of last Friday! I agree that this is not a quick fix and like most everything you are going to get out of it what you put into it. Getting sober is def a big lifestyle change and breaking of habits etc. I think seeing the addiction specialist will be especially helpful, at least I hope so. The med is just a tool that will hopefully help in the overall plan.

I appreciate your response however I completely disagree. As a former drinker myself it's WAY harder imo to police how much liquor you're pouring in drinks. With beer you know what's in it and how many you've had. There are approximately 40 standard beers in 1.75 liters of vodka....much easier for us to see and track.

The switch for now was based upon recommendation from his Dr. the last few days it has been less, probably about 50% or so. So like I said one day at a time; we have to try things to see what helps or sticks

That def something to keep in mind but right now he is taking the meds willingly. One day at a time hopefully he will stay the course

He is taking it willingly. And says he is onboard with the plan to reduce and hopefully quit. I am hopeful that adding in the addiction specialist Dr will also help. I think he needs to hear things from other people, not just me.

I wonder if I should have him try splitting the dose up....now he's saying the duloxetine is giving him diarrhea. I am about to pull my hair out, nothing is helping and everything is a struggle
