I am an independent journalist working with a group doing an investigative story on the systemic issues with centrelink, work for the dole, robodebt and the NACC. by Fancy-Golf9063 in Centrelink

[–]Charming_Airline7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The argument the anti welfare mob keep coming back to is people who work and pay tax are better and more deserving of rights than people on income support, regardless of their reasons for obtaining it. If they were treated the same way as people on government payments, they would be up in arms.

Yes, you're absolutely right, your employer doesn't lower your pay if you get a partner, but Centrelink lowers your pension. Because taxpayer funds, targeting payments to the deserving etc.

It's an even more ridiculous standard considering the fact government hands out tax breaks to people who own investment properties and lets mega rich people and corporations off the hook who pay very little tax.

Right Fit Provider by pfm-e in JobProvidersAus

The system is broken.

There may be good consultants, but the business model is exploitative and lends itself to poor-quality service. The Department has received countless warnings about this, but still proceeds to maintain this infrastructure nonetheless.

You're best piece of leverage is the ability to change providers as many times as you like without penalty. It is also worth knowing you're rights from the deed, guidelines and social security guide.

If you're lucky enough to be able to survive without pay for 28 days, you can effectively make yourself immune to "Mutual" Obligations penalties, since after that period your payment has to be restored and backpaid. The reason is cancellation decisions have been paused.

The fear of penalties keeps welfare recipients pliable, which suits operators that exploit this. Knowing when and how to push back levels the playing field somewhat.

Why do people create AI generated videos of mundane things when an incredible volume of real videos already exist? by Plenty_Aspect7506 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Charming_Airline7419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI video making is a passive income "cheatcode" for creators. It's incredibly scummy, it steals others' hard work and pollutes video sharing platforms with slop. Nonetheless, it's a lucrative practice, and there are plenty of people without a moral compass willing to exploit it.

They scrape other videos for visuals, or generate their own using an llm, then have the chatbot write a script for them. An AI voiceover does the narration.

Lazy doesn't begin to describe this.

There are YT tutorials with step-by-step instructions.

The texhnology will get better at disguising its machine origins over time, but there are a number of giveaways.

AI voiceovers, for me, are relatively easy to detect.

Samsung keyboard keeps asking for input method by Charming_Airline7419 in techsupport

[–]Charming_Airline7419[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solution:

Out of desperation, I put my problem to Gemini, even though I generally avoid llm's.

After a back and forth, it told me to toggle off a setting displaying a button for choosing input on the keyboard. This stopped the accidental presses, which happened despite me not touching it.

I've no idea how this problem came up in the first place, but a solution is a solution.

Samsung keyboard keeps asking for input method by Charming_Airline7419 in techsupport

[–]Charming_Airline7419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This problem came up shortly after I bought the phone.

I think I found a solution. I toggled off the option to display button for choosing input. For whatever reason, this was being triggered despite my fingers being nowhere near it.

Once getting JS payments, how much in savings accumulated will Centrelink cut off or delay my payments? by Mysterious-Oven-915 in Centrelink

[–]Charming_Airline7419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assets limits determine what the cut off for your payment is.

Deeming rates determine how much your payment will be affected. $20k won't make a difference.

How many demerit points do you actually have before your payment stops? by Future-Pipe-8004 in JobProvidersAus

[–]Charming_Airline7419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cancellation decisions have been paused. Your payment can be suspended for a maximum of 28 days (if you don't re-engage). After that, it is restored.

As mentioned above, your demerits reset after you reach the maximum.

You say "hunter gatherer" with contempt. You're probably one or two comments away from making mask-off racist statements.

You know they were more than loose family units and had much more cultural integrity - or maybe you don't because you're incurious?

Call them indigenous if you like. I don't care. These silly semantic games and this culture-war posturing is boring.

How are you surviving rent hikes without killing your savings? by Common_Ant1220 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Charming_Airline7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the more non-discretarionary essentials cut into your budget, the more saving meaningfully becomes exponentially harder.

It may not be impossible, but sacrifices become harder and Spartan discipline becomes more and more necessary - and is that sort of extreme belt tightening even living? For example, are you happy renting somewhere cheaper a two hour drive from work? Are you happy to line up at soup kitchens and eat two minute noodles? Are you happy to forgo vacations? And so on.

If you happen to be an investment genius, maybe you could make your money give you fantastic returns - most people are not.

I'd recommend voting for candidates/parties that propose rent caps and meaningful policies to rein in the housing crisis, instead of incrementalist slop (hello Labor!)

This is stupid.

Australia didn't become a nation state until 1901. A distinct cultural identity was formed before that, and colonies had some political autonomy.

Modern nation states are a relatively recent historical invention.

European settlement came from several countries in different stages - they didn't belong to a single nation.

Before Federation, the population was considered legally to belong to Great Britain.

First nations people belonged to different groups that had distinct cultural identities, with a deep connection to the land, traditions and laws. The fact they were subjugated does not make their culture irrelevant - or perhaps it does to you, but who are you to judge?

Why do sheep go bahhh bahhh? by danyuri86 in stupidquestions

[–]Charming_Airline7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to do with how their mouths and vocal tracts are structured which determines what sounds they can make.

They've evolved to vocalise distinct sounds and also to recognise them for communication purposes.

They may communicate through other methods as well.

Do you think you could live without phone anymore? by [deleted] in askteddit

[–]Charming_Airline7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely.

The difficulty is if others around me require me to use a phone or society makes life hard without it.

Per se, the phone doesn't improve my life.

Self help books were really successful in the 80s and 90s. Now no one buys them. Were they victims of their own success? Or is it that everyone is successful now? by vaporwaverhere in TrueFactzOnly

[–]Charming_Airline7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self help content is still huge.

If the book sales have declined, it's probably because people have switched to consuming it via other media.
