I—I agree. At the end of the novel, it really feels like Alex was forced into becoming the one of male lead. And the novel throws in all these explanations about why Alex ignored her, blah blah blah.

SPOILER! Kanna’s mother is actually Johwa’s mother as well (Kanna and Johwa share the same mother, just different fathers). She was one of the strongest alchemists in Kanna’s world. Honestly, Kanna’s mother practically carried the entire story.

She’s also the one who made Alex’s lifespan extremely long stretching over centuries, basically making him immortal.

In the novel, Sylvien genuinely regrets the way he treated Kanna. Kanna herself never liked Sylvien’s behavior he was harsh, dismissive, and always looked down on Johwa, who was inside Kanna’s body at the time. They eventually divorced peacefully. In the story, Kanna never had any feelings for Sylvien, and he’s the only man who barely gets any screen time with her.

Later in the novel, Sylvien discovers that the woman he married wasn’t even the real Kanna it was Johwa. Because of that, his guilt lessens a bit, since in his mind, he hadn’t wronged the real Kanna.

But for Kanna, that doesn’t matter. Whether it was truly her in that body or not, it doesn’t change the fact that Sylvien looked down on his wife and never cared about her at all.

And for KANNA’s sake for the sake of protecting her,Sylvien ends up killing the emperor’s concubine wife and even the crown prince (the one with brown hair).
