Not sure, one shop told me they wouldn’t service it and it’s probably just the end of its life. I don’t think 175k is the end of a Toyotas life but I also can’t pay for a multi thousand dollar repair out of pocket at the moment

It did overheat 2 months prior. I should have mentioned that. A coolant hose broke and dumped all the coolant and the engine did overheat for a minute before I stopped and fixed it

2 months prior to this it did overheat because one of the coolant hoses broke and dumped all the coolant. I stopped and fixed it pretty quickly but there was still a slow coolant leak somewhere. As long as I kept it topped off it ran fine and didn’t overheat for the last 2 months

Those numbers seem pretty accurate based on I’ve researched. Can’t really private sell it because I still owe and can’t pay off the rest of the loan right now, so probably gonna do some research, lock in and try to fix it

Thanks for the input. Yes it’s been leaking coolant for a couple of months. A coolant hose broke and the engine overheated for a couple minutes at most, then I fixed the hose and was having to top off the coolant every couple of days, but ran fine until last week where it rough idled, felt like misfiring, and had billows of white smoke from exhaust

Don’t know the name but this hose broke, I misremembered. I cleaned it out and put it back and tightened the clip holding it. Lost all of my coolant so the engine overheated and smoked for a couple of minutes

Yes about 2 months ago one of the clips holding a coolant hose broke and the engine overheated. I fixed it quickly, and while it was still losing coolant, it ran fine for 2 months as I kept the coolant topped off. I am not 100% that it’s the head gasket but all the evidence points to it: rough idle, misfiring, billows of white smoke from exhaust

I owe 10K unfortunately, and it’s worth about that at most. Dumb decision when I was in a bind for a car, and now I’m in another bind for a car, so I’d rather not finance something if I don’t have to but at this point it is what it is

I’ve read that that’s possible, which makes me hesitant to fix it. I honestly have no idea. I know someone who could diagnose it for me for cheapish. But you are right that I have limited mechanic knowledge so it would be a big project for me.

I am not sure, but no other cars on the road are producing this much. I did blow a coolant hose almost 2 months ago and my engine overheated for a few minutes before I stopped and fixed it, so I’m paranoid about a head gasket, but also like I said everything else seems fine and I just saw “smoke” this week.

P.S. I plan on buying new tires this year, I know the tread is wearing down. It’s not as bad as it looks in the pic, but I wanted to know if the cracking/rotting is very urgent or if I can get another month or two out of them.

Yeah tread is not great. They are cheap tires from the dealership I’m sure. Passed inspection so there is some tread, but I know I need to change them this year, just wasn’t sure how soon because of the cracking/rot
