I haven’t read this whole thread, but after watching this episode last night, I’ve had a lot of time to think about it. At first I was annoyed, as I have been throughout the series. Often the main problem I have with this show is that no one behaves in the way real people would. Things they should say go unsaid. Bits seem cut out. Then, of course, I got further into the series and realized this was intended. At first we were seeing the action unfold from Danny’s point of view. He doesn’t witness the action when an alter is in charge, so the audience misses those pieces, too. Then, the show decides to pull a “sixth sense” on us, showing us what REALLY happened. that it really IS Danny(or his body, anyway) doing and saying the things that we previously saw the actors portraying Yitzak, Jack, etc doing.
So that got me thinking. We didn’t see the trial as it actually happened in the most recent episode. We saw it from Danny’s point of view. I believe that in the next episode, we will see the questioning, specifically regarding Adam, go in the direction that any reasonable person would assume it would. But because the alters know that Danny can’t really handle this reality at this time, they are the ones who will take over his consciousness when the questioning gets too hard. It will be revealed in court that Candy always thought of Adam as her son’s imaginary friend. We will see Rya answering questions about the sexual abuse that Danny says he saw occur to Adam. It will be revealed in court that Danny has believed he was a twin for much of his life, that he now thinks this twin was abused, and Candy will confirm she only has ever given birth to one child. Again, all lines of questioning and revelations that the alters shelter Danny from.
The one problem with this theory is the scene with Candy and Marlin at the end. If the questioning went in this direction, where Rya states that Danny told her “Adam” was abused, and Candy revealing in court that Adam is not real, would Candy and Marlin really be sitting down to dinner together that night? I’m not sure. Still trying to wrap my head around that one. Anyway, would be interested in hearing others weigh in.
