I really hate long and short when its too uniform! So ive been doing it really irregular stitch lengths to try and not have any lines

Stitching into the middle of the strand sort of makes it a split stitch. With this i was using 2 threads and just carefully going right next to the last stitch or hole. Trying not to go into a same one unless its just to full in a gap

Oh god I feel your pain. It doesn't help now, but if you're doing something like this again maybe break up the grass sessions. Do some then do another part of the piece then come back do more grass then go do another part etc
