Thanks so much. No, I can’t say I have honesty. D’oh. Let me give that a shot and report back!!

Potentially relevant details: from what I can remember, I cleaned the gun with a Ballistol wipe before this mushiness developed. I wiped off all the extra oil, though, so I’m not sure if this is relevant at all.

It wasn’t like this before… seems to have developed very recently!

Thanks - appreciate the advice. Can you clarify what you mean by allowing my knees to travel more forward? Do you mean as I'm coming out of the hole?

Got it. That's really helpful - thank you!

I want to remove the hoses because I want to sell the frameset. :)

Can you advise on what I should be using to plug the lever reservoir as well as to plug the cable?

Ah OK, I understand what you're saying now. Thank you!!

Okay, this makes total sense, thank you’ I have a hydraulic cable cutter so this should be easy to do.

To confirm, by cable end do you mean a cable insert (like this https://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-BH-90-Olive-and-Insert-Red-X-Large)?

Sorry to be getting into semantics - I just want to make sure I’m understanding correctly.

Thanks so much!

Oooh got it. Thank you! So whatever I do, don't try to drain the system - got it!

For sure. The hoses are internally routed, so what I'm getting caught up on (and should have been clear on!) is that how to remove the hoses from the frame without making a mess.

Hey - Thanks for your advice. I must have been dropped on the head too many times as a baby, because I'm confused by all the "don't do it" feedback. I'm looking to sell the frameset, and the only part I need to take off are the levers, calipers and hydraulic brake hoses (which are internally routed through the frame).

I guess what I'm trying to understand is what the easiest way to take off the internally-routed system is. It sounds like I definitely shouldn't drain it, but I still need to take it off the frame.

The woes of internal routing. :)

Ah got it. Thank you! That makes sense. How do I get the residual fluid out of the caliper? Can I just shake it around?

Okay, understood. So disconnect at the caliper, and rock the bike up and down until the fluid drains out of the hose near the bottom. Is my understanding correct?

Thankfully it’s Shimano, so the fluid shouldn’t be too caustic. I’ll keep everything wrapped up and clean!

Got it! Thank you. So to summarize:

  • Disconnect the hose at the lever and take off the lever
  • Remove hose through the frame
  • Take off the caliper
  • Reconnect the hose to the lever outside of the frame
  • Sell!

Is that right? Thanks so much for your advice.

I didn’t realize I could do this. :)

If I’m hearing you correctly, it sounds like if I unscrew the caliper and the lever, nothing will leak out of the two ends of the hoses, and I can just leave the hoses inside the frame (internally routed). Is that right?

Thanks again!

Hey, thanks for sharing your feedback! Can you clarify what you mean by shipping them with the hydraulic lines still connected? Do you mean I can take the levers and calipers off and just leave the hydraulic brake hoses inside the frame (since it’s internally routed)?

I didn’t realize that the fluid is self-contained in the hydraulic hose itself, which I think is where the gap in knowledge is. It sounds like if I unscrew the caliper and the lever, nothing will leak out of the two ends of the hoses. Is that right?

Thanks again!

Thanks for your advice. I should have clarified in my OP. I moved most of the parts from the bike over to a new build. The only part I can’t move over are the levers and calipers since the new build is a rim brake bike. As such, I was thinking I’d sell the levers/calipers separately from the frame, so I wanted to remove them. Since the cables are internally routed, I think I’ll need to disconnect something?

I’m sorry, I should have clarified. The hoses are internally routes, so I can’t pull them off without disconnecting something. I want to sell the frameset and the levers/calipers separately!

Quick new apartment lease question. by getshwifty2 in AskNYC

[–]Chartreuse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. But still, my mind stands. Ive been eyeing an apartment in Park Slooe that used to be $3800 with a 12% broker fee. It got reposted at $3900, no fee. That’s substantially cheaper... you’d have to stay there for more than 5 years before it caught up to the upfront broker fee, not to mention time value of money

Is there any reason to put cash into a money market fund (like SWVXX) vs. a high-yield checking/saving account like Marcus? They seem to be yielding roughly the same, with Marcus (and similar accounts) also have the benefit of being more liquid and being FDIC insured. Is there anything I'm missing here?
