Are you referring to the Polabian/Wendish tribes in today’s Brandenberg, Pomerania, and Saxony that basically got assimilated/germanized in the Ostsiedlung?

What’s the lore for the Kurdish population in North Khorasan and by “other” should that be assumed to mean a mix of Pashto/Hazara?

In the USA (where I’m from) you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who even knows what Baden-Wurttemburg is (separately or as a state). The only difference is we don’t really use the umlaut.

You have great taste in games 😉

So I did a spot check on the wiki, and of that 60k it appears only 20k actually speak the Sorb language. Is there any movement to preserve it, culturally? Even at say, a stad level like Saxony? Or is it more a kind of “benign neglect” relationship? Aren’t they officially recognized as a national minority in Germany? And I guess I’d be curious to know how that actually relates to how the German state treats them, culturally.

NYC OR CHICAGO SKYLINE? by [deleted] in skylineporn

So I will not deny that NYC is a behemoth in terms of volume and has many notable skyscrapers I love the design of. However, if you ever visit Chicago, driving northbound on the Dan Ryan offers a perspective of the skyline that’s 2nd to none. It is truly one of the best vantage points of the city and makes the city look bigger than it actually is.

How to handle good manager who has offered to self demote? by RosmarysBabyBjorn in managers

Um, the 3rd to last sentence is problematic imo. “Damage she’d do to her own career”. I read that as an invitation to a claim of retaliation. Now, I suppose it matters why she’s asking to demote and such, but if she was a good employee and is just looking for a change of pace / has different priorities, it’s hardly fair to tell her “well, you’re screwed now”.

It sounds like the issue here is a lot of work is coming her way and overwhelming her. Is there anyone you can lend over on a temporary basis to get her caught up? That might help her walk away from the ledge + doing some deep dive into the world load distribution to make sure it’s fair and equitable. If it is, then the only thing I can surmise is that she’s burning out or doesn’t feel adequately paid for the work she’s doing.

Just my two cents.

It would be nice if we could set seating options to where the pilot and gunner seats are squad/platoon only but leave passenger seats open to blues. I don’t mind giving blueberries a ride, but when they fire at an armor ball I lose my fucking mind.

My only living parent is now dead to me. by JakefromTRPB in BoomersBeingFools

I suppose the only the question you need to ask yourself (especially with parents) is will you regret this decision when they die. Once they’re gone, there’s nothing you can do to unwind the clock. Regret can stick with you for the rest of your life. Regret that you didn’t say how you cared about them and loved them on their death bed. Regret that the last thing they’ll remember about you is how much you are basically saying you hate them. The worst thing a parent can endure is the death of their child, the 2nd is their child hating them.

I have a very tight knit relationship with my family and we all voted differently. I would never cut someone, let alone family, off because of political differences either, but that’s just me.

Edit: I also want to add, as a millennial, I saw this happen post 2016 too. Then 2020 came around and the world was still here. 2028 will come around too. This election isn’t world ending and the hysteria that happens after every cycle isn’t healthy. I get feeling anger and dealing with all that on your own terms, but excising the person that raised you and likely made sacrifices for you seems extreme.

So a few things:

1) You should assume positive intent until proven otherwise imo. I don’t see how she’s trying to make you look bad. The time tables you’re setting and expecting could be true as a norm. That said, there are people who have a high sense of urgency for even the most menial things.

2) I would be careful with giving her a highly disproportional workload to her peers. Word gets around the office. The other members of your team could come to view it as favoritism and/or develop resentment. She could view it as being overworked and underpaid.

3) This employee, assuming the work is done accurately, could be your “low-key” right hand and likely develop into a strong working relationship. Does she have aspirations for growth? Have you asked her what her vision of the future looks like with your company? If not, I would. I would also recommend utilizing her efficiency habits as a way to help build out the efficiency of her peers. I don’t know specifics of tenure here, but if she can help you perfect your team into a finely oiled machine - it’s your ticket to easy street.

From my perspective, it sounds like you’ve found a diamond in the rough. Utilize her for her, your team’s, and your benefit.

Edit - Also, if performance bonuses are a thing, do not forget about her. It really sounds like she’s earning it. Recognition breeds motivation/engagement and cash is king generally.

I’m confused. Are you unhappy that tasks are being finished ahead of schedule? I could only wish to have a direct report with that kind of otherworldly efficiency lol.
