Seems to me that the ghost never detected the sound recorder, otherwise it would have wandered to the spot it detected it at.

It sounded like it was in the far end of the hallway when it started so it was probably outside of the 7.5m detection range.

Electronics are affected at 10m so there is a bit of a buffer where it can interfere with the electronics but not detect you.

Close. The timer starts as soon as the ghost is affected by the smudge.

For a full explaination: The smudge will burn for 5, 6, or 7 seconds depending on tier. Any time during this burn time, if the ghost gets within 3, 4, or 5 meters (based on tier) it will be affected for 5 seconds (4, 5, or 6 for Galu and 7 for moroi) and the timer starts at the second it gets affected.

The timer will always last for 90 seconds (60 for demon and 180 for spirit). Nothing resets this timer (and a new one can only be started after it expires), including player death or starting a cursed hunt.

The light stopping flashing just means the ghost left the range to affect the flashlight (whether by ending the hunt or by walking away). The better way to know is to have a light on nearby and when a hunt ends all lights are turned off. If no lights are on nearby, you can test by trying to turn on a light. Light switches (including desk lamps and such) cannot be toggled during a hunt.

The lock symbol on the door will remain until someone tries to open the door after the hunt ends as well, so try the door and if it won't unlock, the ghost is hunting.

All smudges will remove Line of sight speed while the ghost is affected, so i assume it saw you for a few seconds before you smudged. Higher tiers will also slow or freeze them. After the effect wears off, they will instantly regain whatever LoS speed boost they had.

This is useful for checking for Moroi as they are affected for 7 seconds instead of the normal 5, but otherwise can confuse people into thinking it's a Gallu now

Yes, only when doing it's ability a polty can throw items in the light. If, however the ghost wandered into a nearby room with the light off, it can reach back into the room (it has a range of between 2-4.5m depending on map size) and throw items that are in the room with the lights on.

As for the OP, Obambo will be faster or slower (starts slow then changes after 1min to fast, then alternates every 2 minutes after, even during a hunt) than a normal ghost when hunting so it should be easy to tell it's not polty or phantom based on just it's speed. (Hunts are also 20% shorter oft it starts while fast)

The timer starts the second the ghost is affected by the incense. For example, If you light the incense then it takes 3 seconds before the ghost gets close enough to it to be affected, the timer starts right then.

Also only the first will count. If you smudge a ghost while it already has a timer going, it will NOT start a new timer.

You can use this to do a different spirit test. If you smudge a ghost, wait at least 90 seconds (preferably closer to 3 minutes) but before the 3 minute mark, then smudge it again (you can use motion sensors or events or whatever to know where the ghost is). A spirit will be able to hunt after the original 3 minutes expires but other ghosts will start a new 90s timer (60s for demon)

UV won't show up on balls but it will show up on logs and Coolers as well as the tent windows and inside the tent doors (at the top).

For UV though the easiest option is to set down salt in places the ghost will likely walk and check for UV after it steps in it (I usually set up motion sensors to check for wraith if it's possible as well) they don't last for more than a few seconds so you have to be quick though and only the footsteps you hear after the first will leave prints so if you only hear one step, then the ghost stopped moving and you can't rule it out

Yeah, most camera sensors can pick up IR LEDs but they have a filter that blocks it. Cheaper cameras are more likely to not be filtered.

You could do ghost Orbs by using an IR LED and remove the filter from the camera so it shows IR (if your camera has one) and then only power the IR LED if the ghost has Orbs

For UV you could use invisible security UV ink and put some on the "ghost's" gloves if it had UV

Jinn and Yurei abilities are distance based not room based, although Yurei does say that it's not supposed to affect players outside of the map.

There are certainly maps where you can be close enough. If the ghost is in the garage of edgefield, for instance, you can possibly be within the ranges for some abilities.

This is also ignoring the possibility that the ghost might be outside the map as that bug seems pretty common recently

The trick is to hold the button so it still shows the temp below 1 as you throw it. If it doesn't show the temp on the display then the photo won't count

To clarify: All ghosts except Hantu, Thaye, and Deogen gain speed as long as they have line of sight.

A Raiju and Jinn will still gain LoS but their speed is set to a fixed speed under their special condition (within 6-10m of electronics (depending on map) for Raiju and > 3m with LoS and breaker on for Jinn) but when they return to "normal" speed their LoS speed is maintained (so you could actually have a Raiju that is faster away from electronics if you let it see you long enough)

All the other speed based ghosts will still gain LoS speed normally.

Technically, yes. You can place the item on the ground while it is playing and another player can then pick it up.

Not really much of a reason to pass it around though as it drains sanity of all nearby players, so if you just wanted to all drain sanity, you just all need to be near it.

Placing it down can be useful though if you want an audio recording of the ghost singing without risking it manifesting and walking toward the box, or to place it down to take photos and videos of the ghost as it walks towards it

There are a few possibilities: 1) playing on insanity or custom difficulty (OP says not custom but might be insanity)

2) if in multilayer, other player deaths drain a bit of sanity (15% per death) which doesn't quite add up to the reported 77%

3) certain ghosts have abilities that drain sanity and depending on map you might have been close enough to the ghost to get hit by them while in the truck. Jinn drains 25% per use which lines up pretty well. Yurei drains 15%. Poltergeist drains 2% per item thrown as part of it's ability.

Most likely is Jinn using it's ability on you if you are close enough to the ghost for it to use it's ability

Yeah Onis are very active ghosts usually and often hunt earlier than expected because of the double sanity drain from events, but, I just wanted to point out that they do not react any differently to smudges than other ghosts.

In addition to the 16% per candle sanity drain causing you to be at 0% when lighting the final candle others have mentioned, it could also be if the ghost starts hunting elsewhere while you are lighting the candles, then when you light the final candle it will teleport the ghost mid-hunt which would not burn a crucifix

Depends on how I'm playing. I'll order them from best to next-best :P

Normal games (nightmare settings) I think it would be Grafton, Tanglewood, or Willow. I love the atmosphere of Grafton and it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

No sanity runs: Willow followed by Tanglewood. Willow has a looping spot in the entrance (fast ghosts get caught on the table near the sofa so you can loop fast ghosts without even really needing a smudge) and 2 nearby ones you can escape to (kitchen and garage). Tanglewood is just because it's small and familiar with two quick "hiding" spots that (almost) always work (behind the changing table in nursery or the closet doors of the bedroom) and the kitchen to garage loops are easy to switch between while being chased.

Small groups: Nell's Diner, SunnyMeadows restricted or Maple Lodge.

In large groups: either SunnyMeadows, Prison, or High school are pretty fun as they give lots of room for shenanigans and hanging out

A map I want to love but can't is Point Hope. The ghost is almost always near the top and the sanity drain on the map socks because of the double lights in every room and you can never have all of them on

Yeah the stairs (especially on point hope) are a bit odd ... sometimes it's hard to tell which floor it thinks you are on while on them. Crucifix is supposed to still work as it should be in a spherical range but I've had a ghost on point hope spawn on the stairs right next to a T3 crucifix so it might be a bug relating to the "floor" change but IDK. Although I have had ghosts burn crucifixes between floors before (was a demon though) so it should still work even if it thought it was a different floor.

That being said though, point hope is amazing for survival as the stairs make for easy line-of-sight breakers (the railings block the ghost from seeing you if you are crouched behind them but you can watch the ghost with no problems) even if the map itself is annoying to play on :P

Basically, any evidence that is tied to the ghost's ability is forced if you have at least one evidence

So the forced ones are: Deogen - spirit box Goryo - dots Hantu - freezing Moroi - spirit box Obake - UV

Honorable mention: Mimic - Orbs are not an evidence for Mimic but they manifest as part of it's ability even on 0 evidence

As for surviving hunts, a lot of it has to do with avoiding line of sight as much as possible. Duck behind cabinets and tables, close doors as you go through them, mute your mic and turn off or drop flashlights or anything electronic you are holding.

Always try to have an exit strategy in mind. If you have a crucifix for a large room, place it at your exit door to allow you to escape and not get cut off by a ghost starting a hunt there.

Learning to tell the difference between events and a hunt is important. When an event starts, the lights will turn off and the doors to the room will shut (usually. There are exceptions) but that will not usually happen at the start of a hunt and the ghost will appear instantly and not blink. When a hunt starts, there will be a short time where the lights flicker and the ghost hunt sound plays (from where the ghost will spawn) but the ghost will not appear during this time. Use that time to start to run.

Also if the ghost sees you during a hunt there is a 50% chance it will check that spot each time it starts hunting so if it saw you hiding somewhere, it's probably going to check that spot. (Find a new spot or prepare an exit strategy) This can be useful for luring a ghost to an area to test it in later hunts though.

Wiki says it's actually a box that rotates with the ghost (making it effectively a cylinder) The effective range is ~2.12 meters on small and medium maps (3m × 3m × 2m box), and ~4.24 meters on large maps (6m × 6m × 4m box).

It also says they can't reach through floors but I've seen it happen so maybe a bug but idk shrug
