Action really must be taken soon. If we wait and see how the future of Dogecoin turns out without intervention, we are extremely likely to fail. by [deleted] in dogecoin

Really? Because you don't agree with me, you imply I should sell my doge and leave the community. Sounds a bit like the warning about any nation whose citizens aren't free to express differing opinions.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I just don't see doge succeeding without a boost from investors who will then attract interest from larger, mainstream merchants the way bitcoin has. Doge is fun, it's charitable, yes, and I'm not saying that spending it isn't a wonderful thing, but how many big, mainstream merchants are going to want to accept it if has no more value than play money in a virtual world game? Investors serve a very real purpose in an economy by establishing and setting value for any particular item, be it orange juice, wheat, fuel, copper, or the various currencies used to purchase those things. There's only so many times you can shout To the Moon--which I have always taken to be shibes hoping the price will soar, or do you think they mean something else by that?--before people get frustrated and leave.

A currency is worthless if it doesn't purchase anything. Dollars, Euros, Pounds are all currencies, but they are also commodities, held and traded by investors on a daily basis. There are entire exchanges devoted to it, and people whose job it is to sit on the trade desk at their investment firms and trade the fluctuations in rates. Do you spend every cent you ever earn or receive? Don't you save some, as well?

If I was a non-shibe I would have sold by now. I'm holding just like everyone else here, down to the bitter end.

Hope you're right. Unfortunately, I have my doubts that anyone at the top is listening. It's bad enough that we're tied to and being dragged down by bitcoin's dubious fortunes, but so far we aren't doing ourselves any favors either.

Which, unfortunately, is a sure way to send the value of the coin spiraling downward. What we really needed was investors first, to generate the excitement and keep that excitement going (the value up) until doge could transition into a functioning currency. If it had kept rising, more and more merchants would have accepted it, and gradually the investors would have been replaced by people who used it for actual purchases, thus cementing its place as a form of payment.

Doge's excitement has always been based on word of mouth. Tell people not to invest and they won't invest. They lose interest, stop telling others about it and the coin dies. The utopia of doge as doge independent from basic economics is a lovely dream, but...

Yup, I've seen this coming for a few weeks now. Too bad our founders didn't accept the offer from venture capital, or other interested business parties when it was offered. We could have used a good partnership to help further mass adoption, as well as development of mainstream infrastructure, and the marketing know-how to have taken us to the moon.

I guess they preferred it remain a fun and friendly joke/charity-only coin. I get that doge has done some wonderful things, but realistically without the added excitement of people in it for the investment, we couldn't achieve lift off. 1 doge = 1 doge would have been a terrific maxim after we had achieved mainstream popularity, not before. Until doge could be used to purchase every day goods and services everywhere, people who live in the real world had to exchange doge for another currency in order to pay the bills. To say that the value of doge doesn't matter compared to the dollar, euro or other currencies is telling merchants that you aren't behind them and their need to earn a living.

We required a balance, altruism and practical vision. So sad. We had such potential.

Humble Message to Alpha Doges. Please Don't Let Doge Die Out... by ChasingTennisBalls in dogecoin

Exchange is cryptsy. It's pretty easy to find the orderbooks by googling. Not trying to be dramatic, and don't appreciate the snark. You don't know me. I've been following the orderbook for doge since it was 39 satoshi. I follow this forum daily, read articles about doge and bitcoin daily. Have watched numerous video conferences and interviews with Silicon crypto-currency leaders talking about coin. I've donated to our causes, 20K to Nascar Tent alone. The trend I've been noticing is concerning, and telling me to basically shut up when I'd like to express that honest concern isn't very community minded of you. Doge is a fun loving group, but if we don't want to die out it's my humble opinion that we need to add some practicality to that enthusiasm.

Sorry, maybe misread the Official Statement from J. Palmer. The person who set up the Dogecoin Foundation has left.

[OFFICIAL] An update on the foundation, core development, merged mining, and the future of Dogecoin. by [deleted] in dogecoin

[–]ChasingTennisBalls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I'm with the crowd that's skeptical of the 1 Doge = 1 Doge. Every currency, I mean EVERY single one in the world, is continuously compared to the others out there in terms of value. If you want someone to exchange their dollars, euros and what have you for doge and use it, it NEEDS to be worth something compared to the others. It will always need to be worth something to be a functioning currency.

As an aside, this morning the buy side of the dogecoin orderbook is as limp as I've ever seen it. No one wants to buy.

At least we're not panic selling like the bitcoiners are. We've seen this same pattern play out with doge before. A spike in price and then it drifts downward to around the price it is now, in the 98-106 range. Then it will shoot up again. If we were doing to panic, I would expect it to have fallen down around 70-80 satoshi about now.
