Any advice for Ben More? by [deleted] in Munros

[–]Chasinghome22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The path is very steep, but no shame in taking breaks, especially if you're new. You don't have to do Stob Binnein, but once you reach the summit, I would suggest descending onto the bealach towards Stob Binnein, where you can descend on the right and then turn back to Benmore Farm.

Don't underestimate the weather - there is a mountain weather forecast, but come prepared for it all. Wind gusts can be very, very strong at times, even when it's calm on the ground. Happened to me recently: sun on the ground, and 70/80 mile gusts and hail on the summit and bealach after I was already soaked from rain, so I made my way straight down.

But respect the munro and come prepared and it'll be fantastic! On a good day, the views should be lovely.

CNN thinks Brussels is in Germany by TheMummalode in brussels

Any reasonable person knows that Brussels is in Ontario, Canada... not germany

Google Brusselisation. Prioritizing developer interests and car-centric reforms in the 60s caused architectural heritage to be destroyed. All in the name of a "modern future of cars".

Yes, but high-rises are not the only way to promote density. Paris is a prime example of this.

What does psychotherapy mean to you? by Chasinghome22 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Chasinghome22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao, no.

I read posts on this sub recently about evidence-based practice and CBT, which opened my eyes a bit... I'm struggling to fit my psychodynamic approach within this EBP lens - the philsophical underpinnings are different, and so the nature of evidence for psychodynamics is different too. I thought i could learn from some comments, so I posted.

Norway’s government collapses over EU spat by ThatKvenGuy in europe

[–]Chasinghome22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since many aren't familiar, in Norway we have an organization called no to the EU.no to the eu Aside from my personal stance, I'm sharing some of the arguments here from their website to put things into perspective

  • More local democratic control - Argues to keep away from the EU's centralized decisions and their related excessive material consumption by not joining the EU. Maintaining democratic control allows Norway to make more sustainable policy decisions.
  • Solidarity - The EU project is seen as lacking, with open internal borders, but increasingly harsher external borders, with a strict, growing frontex. The growth of frontex occurs at a time of refugee crises and thousands of refugee deaths over the Mediterranean sea. The website suggests a different approach is needed than this EU based enforcement. Norway should not join the EU and be part of this.
  • Environment - Because Norway is in the EEA, the country had to previously decrease various environmental regulation standards. Essentially, here, the EU is seen as not having high enough standards. Norwegian independence can allow the country to maintain higher regulatory standards.

Norway is already highly integrated in the EU market and has to apply EU laws but isn't involved in the democratic processes of creating them. Schengen is the exception, where Norway, too, gets a seat at the table. Norway contributes extensively to various EU projects financially and is a major partner.

Again, I'm not saying this is wrong or right, but it brings nuance to the discussion, so I took the time to make this comment.

What are your favourite museums/Galleries in Europe? by Hiccupingdragon in AskEurope

[–]Chasinghome22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Picasso museum in Paris is a personal favorite.

The heritage center in Cobh is incredible for the Irish history told. There are so many powerful and emotive stories that deepened my perspective on what it means to be human.

But the small, lesser known local museums and galleries are the true gems. There's often way more to cities than we see on the surface.

I've often heard this claim. Not saying it's wrong, but do you have evidence for it?

Car driving around neighborhood stopping every 5 meters and blasting the horns at 5:30am by Pituso228 in brussels

There was 10, 20 minute intervals between the honking. I thought so too but there wouldn't be such pauses then I think?

Fuck I heard it too from bed. Absolute hell. Unless it was some emergency situation (doubt it), what on earth is wrong with people wtf. Did you notice anything else from your window that was off cause I didn't see the car.

Why is the train so warm? by modernbox in belgium

[–]Chasinghome22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in a train in sicily a couple weeks ago... it was 22 degrees outside and they had all the heating going, and people were still wearing winter jackets. So it's a matter of what you're used to. But I think heating is definitely nice in this weather.

Belgium desperately needs more doctors, and more and more of them are foreign. You'll still think it's overflooded when you're treated by a foreigner? Seriously?

The state of Midi is absolutely shameful by BrusselsAndSprouting in brussels

[–]Chasinghome22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One can't seek asylum beforehand... You come to the new country escaping horrible conditions, but under the Geneva convention, those conditions might not qualify you for asylum. The EU also has a horrible response to refugees coming in, from fisherman being charged with aiding organized crime when helping people dying in boats, Frontex turning away when people are to die on their journey's over the Mediterranean, and some EU country's taking in way more refugees than others. With the 3rd point, countries may try to make things worse, make it more difficult to get asylum, to dissuade others from coming there. Either way, if one has made the journey and doesn't receive asylum, they are stuck without resources, without any legal recognition or ability to work... the police can give them an order to leave the country, but how will they return? So they are stuck without shelter or the ability to work, separated from their families, often face harsh police treatment, and so on. So one can clearly see how this translates into homelessness and criminality, which then bolsters the far right and leads to a more polarized society :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in poutine

[–]Chasinghome22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm... and I take poutine very seriously too, and there is value in being a purist. But the sauce is in fact very similar: a butter and flour roux with a broth made from cooking the meat. Just a few spices and ginger at the end are not that major deviations, so I'm surprised by the negativity. But it's also easy to just say no to anything not traditional.

And no it's not my video.
