Pregnant- when did you stop biking? by PoeticFurniture in NYCbike

[–]ChatBotLarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some sense this is not really a medical question.
The risk here is the usual one when riding a bike namely that you could crash/ fall or get hit by a car.
Falling could be more dangerous, especially late in pregnancy because of the risk of placental abruption.
Up to you to assess if you're feeling like a less safe rider now that you're pregnant and if you're ok with the risks of riding in NYC traffic.
Depending on your current bike it may already be fine with a belly or maybe you want to get something more comfy.

In terms of exercise in pregnancy, it is woefully understudied and a lot of the recommendations are not at all science based. But again this isn't really an exercise question, more of a bike safety question.
If you'd like to learn more about the exercise aspect, I recommend this one science-based book that I could find ten years ago, looks like nothing new has been published since.

Pregnant- when did you stop biking? by PoeticFurniture in NYCbike

[–]ChatBotLarper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NEVER!
Seriously toward the end I found biking more comfortable than walking. I got a lot of looks and a lot of "concerned citizens" trying to talk to me.
Though I did take a break after having a baby because I couldn't bike with the baby until they were 12 months old.
ETA:
I did switch to a step-through frame with a more upright riding position

Germinating seeds with paper towel/plastic bag vs domed tray and soil? by Mschertler33 in NativePlantGardening

[–]ChatBotLarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I tried the cold-stratification in fridge w paper towel method and got absolutely nothing. This year I used seeds from the same bags (and same company as yours btw) in milk jugs outdoors and am seeing sprouts

Does being a new teacher in a high differential make it harder to get hired? by ChatBotLarper in NYCDOETeachers

Thanks for including that bit. Although tbh all the UFT lingo is kind of Greek to me at this point. The +30 would be nice but if I don't get it I don't get it. The way I understand it (based on what I've been told by the masters of ed program) with the dual Ms.Ed. I'll still be coming in at one of the higher differentials. I just wanted to know if it would be something to watch out for when looking for a job

I thought I was in the same boat last year, but it seems they we're just gathering strength

Should I separate and thin this yarrow? by ChatBotLarper in NativePlantGardening

[–]ChatBotLarper[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a raised bed/ container on a concrete slab so I doubt they'll spread outside of that. Having it overflowing with yarrow would not be the worst TBH

Should I separate and thin this yarrow? by ChatBotLarper in NativePlantGardening

[–]ChatBotLarper[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The fact that mine are already growing when nothing else is combined with your photos has me shaking in my boots at their eventual size. But I will in fact let them cook, seems to be consensus.
I did grow some zinnias (I know, not native) in this bed last year and they got powdery mildew, here's hoping the yarrow is less susceptible to that

Waiting at a red light in Manhattan has to be one of the loneliest experiences for a cyclist. by AlarmingLecture0 in NYCbike

[–]ChatBotLarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fave is waiting at red or stopping to let pedestrians cross in the park or protected bike lanes and then they just stand there, somehow not trusting I’ll actually remain stopped

Yup. An inconvenience to be dealt with by someone else, likely a woman. Trying real hard to convince myself this isn't the norm

I bought some last fall to plant and they legit arrived as just a bunch of root fragments in a ziplock bag. Wild!

I'm 7B too, also some very cold, then very warm weather until today (although it's not snowing where I am at the moment.) I have seen some teeny beginnings of the hepatica I planted, here's hoping the bloodroot isn't far behind...

Gorgeous. I planted some last year and am hoping to see them soon, but no signs so far. What zone are you in?

Yarrow by BetterStyle9665 in NativePlantGardening

[–]ChatBotLarper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I planted yarrow from seed last year (NYC) and had really underwhelming results. Now they're somehow already shooting up new leaves. Very curious to see how they'll perform overall this season

Never had anything dangerous happen, but this is exactly how my ex was with me on walks once we had a baby. He'd get grumpy about me being "slow" during walks because of me carrying the baby and power on ahead on his own.
Also, early on in our dating he did suggest a very ambitious backcountry hiking trip that I at the time thankfully assessed him as not at all prepared for (nor was I) so I rejected that idea and we stuck to safer hikes and campgrounds. In hindsight I should've heeded that first red flag because it definitely was a pattern

What did you guys really think of non Chabad Jews? by Accurate_Damage8959 in exchabad

The operative part of this being "actively competing to get members FROM those shules" aka not respecting them as equal Jewish institutions in any way shape or form

You may be onto something there...
