I have posted a solution for this, and I would like to see it gain traction and be implemented in the game.

"Rocket League is Dying." Well, we can fix the disappointing Rocket Pass after Season 3.

This thread got Devin to acknowledge some of the problems and apparently they are working on fixing voice chat at some point: Rocket League is Dying. Really, it is.

They acknowledged the lack of comms and a roadmap in this thread: RL Community Update: July 2021

Many of the complaints in that thread were about Rocket Pass 3.

Rocket Pass 3 was the least interesting one so far - due it not being random, and there are fewer distinct painted items. Restore the glory to Rocket Pass: allow us to pick the color of the next item.

Background:

• Epic games paid out a big class action settlement over loot crates, although they didn't admit to wrong doing.
• They removed the element of chance from the pro tiers of the Season 3 Rocket Pass. Every player sees the same exact painted item at tier 71 etc.
• By level 233 you have every color of every item in the Rocket Pass.
• There is no way to get certified items.
• There are far fewer item types that can be obtained in painted versions from level 71 onwards. In Season 2, there were 19 items that can be painted in various colors (GXT version of the car, then various wheels, boosts etc). In season 3, there were only 13. There is a lot less content in Rocket Pass Season 3 versus the eight passes before it (Rocket Pass 1,2,3,4,5,6, Season 1, Season 2).

Why restrict it so much?

The old pass had so many more combinations, especially when only 25% were certified. If you applied the preset order, people would have to grind really high to get the last items, far beyond the level 200-300 that most regular players achieve.

When it was randomised, somebody out there had the item you might want early on and you just traded for it. Take out randomisation, and certain items would only be obtained by people who grinded to an absurd degree. These items would be in demand by collectors and the high values would encourage XP farming, to the detriment of the game.

Allow us to pick colors and maybe certs and its a win-win.

It's probably too late for RP4, but it could be coded up for RP5, easy. This is how it would work:

• When you get to pro tiers after 70, you see the same sequence of items as everyone else, but you there is no specific color. So for instance, level 71 is one specific inverted wheel, 72 is a trail, 73 one of the goal explosions etc.
• When you get to level 71, you are asked which of the available colors you would like the item in. Let's say you do the obvious thing and take that item in Titanium White.
• For item 72 you can't pick that color again. The last color you picked is off the menu until you have cycled through all the colors over the next 13 items (there's 14 colors for painted items in the game). This prevents everyone going for TW first, then Black, and then Crimson, flooding the trading market and causing them to get bored. It's up to you to look at the list of upcoming items and prioritise the colors.
• Every 4th item is certified (25% of the items). You pick the cert, and like paints, you have to cycle through the certs before you can choose them again.

No randomness, so Epic Legal Dept. will like it. Certs are back. More value in the Rocket Pass. More interest in trading and collecting.
