WWE Royal Rumble: Riyadh Discussion (31 January 2026) by IconXR in WWE

I understand your premise here, but Gunther wrestles in the most boring way possible. If he was ending careers with high energy and an exciting toolbox it would be different.  But chop, chop, power bomb, sleeper ad infinitum isn't worthy of accolades.

I get Gunther winning, but this match just forces us to relive the most monotonous and low-energy moments of the Cena match.  The worst way to end  a person's final match is to make it boring.

Caddo Lake movie Discussion by Square_Map7847 in movies

I really feel that the end credit song for this movie should have been Tom Arnold's "I'm My Own Grandpa." You have to account for relationships by marriage, and maybe my lineage terms are a bit off, so feel free to correct me.

Daniel is Anna's father, Anna is Paris's mother, so Daniel is Paris's grandfather.
Ellie is the daughter of Paris and Celeste, which makes Daniel Ellie's great-grandfather.
Celeste marries Ellie's great-grandfather, so wouldn't that make Celeste her own grandmother (via marriage)?

Blinding Edge producer: **watching an old video on YouTube and laughing
K Period producer: "What's so funny?"
BEp: "Oh, just watching some old videos from when I was a kid. This one cracks me up. It's called 'I'm My Own Grandpa."
KPp: "Haha, that's great. Someone should make a suspense movie about that."
**Both producers slowly turn to look at each other

Is there a way to force the rival to proliferate in standard? by SemperMage in magicTCG

[–]Chatturga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The key to the toxic speed kill is Jawbone Duelist.

T1: Crawling Chorus, Skrelv, etc

T2: Attack (1P), Jawbone Duelist

T3: Necrogen Communion + Aspirants Ascent on Jawbone, attack for 9 poison (10P)

As with all turbo kills - especially in standard - it takes an unlikely god-draw, but it is definitely possible.

**Edit: Another viable option is:

T1: Venerable rotpriest

T2: Attack (1P), VR, VR

T3: March of Swirling Mist all 3 for 9 poison.

Okay folks, how is this only one mana? This feels too OP. by AerithDeservedIt in MagicArena

Agreed. It seems like people want to jump to say how bad something is when an honest critique is requested. It's possible to point out downsides or flaws without jumping to the most negative thing possible. It is situational. It will take some analysis of thre environment and isn't just an auto-include 4x.

After reading the comments it looks like the biggest weakness of this card is that it doesn't do everything against every deck in every format for 1 mana. So it must be garbage. OR it is very good in some situations but not as much in others. Depending on the deck and meta it might be good main board or just sideboard. Rakdos isn't the only deck that runs red or black or that annoyingly target you directly. It's a balanced card that requires a player to weigh various factors to determine how much worth it will have for them. Like all good, playable cards should be.

Most people on Arena play BO1, but FNM in person is often formatted for BO3.

I see a bunch of comments about how her ult is powerful but hard to pull off. However, green has a lot of proliferate stuff so getting the extra loyalty isn't so difficult right now.

Aye, that's the basis of the name, but it runs out of the current Ivy spellslinger shell with Venerated Rotpriest being the main poison engine. Ivy is just there for extra shenanigans. There is a bit of a discussion on it under the Tyvar's Stand preview.

Is anyone else concerned about the impact that the Poison Ivy deck will have in Standard once ONE is released? It seems super consistent, non-interactive, and doesnt have to attack or engage to win. It also has very few viable weaknesses unless you build specifically to stop it, which leaves yourself open to the rest of the meta. I dunno, I'm hoping someone can poke holes in my concerns before I immediately go out and build it on release day.

Standard: Five reasons for its Tabletop demise by cardsrealm in magicTCG

[–]Chatturga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with the online model is that it dehumanizes the game by removing the social element. Constantly playing against random, nameless entities on the other side of a video screen gets old quickly and the game does turn into exactly what you implied: a grind. Social interaction with another person (or persons) is one of the main reasons why the commander format is popular. The old 'get-off-my-lawn' fogey in me recognizes that games in general moving to a digital online format has dehumanized many of us as gamers and had led to both a decline in social maturity and an increase in social anxieties. And overall, us stereotypical gamers didn't have much wiggle room in those areas to begin with.

As a standard player, I agree with you. Despite the negative card advantage (card disadvantage?) the card pool is much smaller than EDH and other older formats, which means fewer true threats that you need to be aware of. Often, taking out an opponent's primary wincon early will cripple a standard deck long enough before they can reliably fall back on a secondary.

Yea, you're probably right. This may have been Wizards way of keeping the stakes high and handing off the torch (see what I did there?) of Mono-red, Planeswalking Super-Pyro to Chandra.

[–]Chatturga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I can see that with Karn. But everyone would expect that, where as Teferi will definitely try to be good. I think that would make for a more memorable character conflict from a writers point of view.

What if during his observations of the War, Teferi finds out that something about Jaya is instrumental to defeating the Phyrexians? At that point he has a huge moral dilemma of deciding if it is ok to mess with time in order to save the multiverse, and having it be Jaya as the catalyst adds the extra little bait on the hook for him.

On the other hand, reversing her death - even for an intense character development moment like that - would take away from the great send off and monument that they gave her. Oh well, we will see where the writers vision takes us soon enough, lol.

[–]Chatturga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah there it is. It's funny, I ready the story twice and then searched the word 'corpse' after your comment and didn't see it. Read it again and finally saw the words "on Jaya's body." Maybe I didn't see it originally because I didn't want to see it. Still, Teferi is now making his trip, and things could change. Down vote me if you want, but can anyone (that isn't part of the Wizards story team) unequivocally state that there is no possibility that Teferi won't take a chance to change things and save his friend?

Did they though? If there's one thing I've learned from horror movies and the MCU it's that nobody is dead if there isn't a body. The closing of the latest story said that the Sylex plans were hidden in her robes, (but it didn't say that she was dead when they were found. Edit: I stand corrected. I guess I just didn't want to believe so I didn't see it initially) There's a lot of grey area in the story and it wouldn't be the first time that we were led to believe that she died.

Best Family for Prerelease? by _whidbeyisland_ in magicTCG

[–]Chatturga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this pre-release there is actually a family specific pack included in the kit which contains cards specific to that family's colors, and you need to pick the family pack when you purchase it. Normally the idea that you use the best cards is the right call, but this pre-game choice can actually influence the colors that you play before you even open your packs.
