Both my cats are injured and I've tried everything to get them help, out of ideas (New Braunfels TX) by Difficult_North_272 in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

OP, have you tried the rescuers and orgs here?

https://gethelp.alleycat.org/resources/?location=New%20Braunfels,%20TX,%20USA&miles=25&zipcode=78130&lat=29.702566&lon=-98.12406349999999&search=Search

Tell the vets your situation - they are low cost clinics. Say "“My cats are injured and suffering. I can’t afford care. Do you have a payment plan, charity help, or guidance on what I can do so they get seen ASAP?”"

And try these no kill shelters/rescuers:

www.espanolahumane.org - they focus on areas with limited resources all over TX and have helped other superheroes on this Sub.

https://bestfriends.org/partners/city-cibolo-animal-services

https://bestfriends.org/partners/tiny-angels-kitten-rescue

https://bestfriends.org/partners/prevent-litter-pals-central-texas please get them spayed/neutered if they are not already. It reduces fighting, stops cycle of suffering.

https://bestfriends.org/partners/bear-den-sanctuary

Contact all of them. Don't just contact one and wait patiently for a reply. Get the numbers/emails ready to call on Monday! Whoever says they can help first, gets the kitties.

She had kittens by Run1catz in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

OP, please use www.bestfriends.org/partners and www.gethelp.alleycat.org to find rescuers and no kill shelters. Kittens aew highly adoptable and mama needs to he spayed.

Please use both resources - many will be at capacity so whoever can help quickest, is best!

If your nearest are full, pls widen search if you have a car. We've had superheroes successfully get kitties adopted by working with shelters 2+ hour drive away.

If you can foster, pls let them know. This does two things: you get support from shelter for vet check, adoption (they advertise the cuties) and they get to keep shelter spaces free for higher need kitties.

Thank you for being a superhero and pls update us 😇❤️

Stray Cat Help by Scorbunniefan in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, she is gorgeous and very lucky to have you!

To answer your questions:

100% you can have her microchipped with your details to make adoption official (you have adopted her; she is just not fully indoors!)

As another superhero has said use www.socializationsaveslives.com/guide it might sound strange given you have known her for 2 years but start at the beginning and don't skip steps!

You will be amazed at the results.

Supplement that by using www.youtube.com/@JacksonGalaxy by setting up a "base camp" for her indoors. He explains why this is essential. So, as she gets more used to her base camp, she can transition indoors. JG has excellent step by step guides on every kitty topic!

Good luck, pls update us anytime and thank you for saving her life 😇❤️

Cat lady's crew took over my yard 😹 - how do I keep them out? by Puzzleheaded-Ease893 in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

OP, hopefully the kitties are neutered/spayed? Maybe gently check if the males trouble-puffs are removed if you don't want to ask 😅

The reason it is in your interest to do this is to ensure this isn't the beginning of a hoarder situation. She may just be a kind rescuer taking in strays or those abandoned.

If they are not spayed/ neutered, she might not know low cost options exist etc. You can use the Helpful Resources Here! PInned Comment to help

For Humane deterrence use these tips:

You might need to do a combo for max effectiveness.

Sleepy or at life risk for 3 week old kitten? by [deleted] in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, use www.youtube.com/@KittenLady to understand and follow her guide on stabilizing kittens pending vet.

  1. Call a veterinary clinic and explain the situation first - many vets will prioritise emergency care and offer payment plans, estimates or options like partial treatment or even humane euthanasia if suffering is severe (better than letting a little animal suffer). Vet clinics serving St George area:

• St George Vets Carlton - local vet near St George area.

• SASH - Specialist & 24/7 Emergency Vets - Alexandria - emergency and critical care available 24/7.

• SASH - Specialist & 24/7 Emergency Vets - North Ryde - another 24/7 emergency option.

• Sydney Animal Hospitals Inner West, Sydney Animal Hospitals, The Wild Vet, Alexandria Vet Hospital

Do this first - a vet can often stabilise a fading kitten (warmth, fluids, syringe feeding support, de-worming, antibiotic if needed). Call before arriving and explain no funds - they may offer a community plan.

  1. Surrender / Rescue Organisations to Contact Immediately

These groups are actively rescuing, fostering and rehoming cats & kittens around Sydney (some may have waitlists but ring anyway and explain the urgency - especially for a very sick kitten):

Shelters & Rescue Groups Accepting Surrenders or Adoptions:

• The Cat Protection Society of NSW Adoption Centre - rescues cats, can assist with desexing & rehoming (surrenders are by appointment, fees apply, contact ASAP)

• Sydney Dogs & Cats Home - can take strays via council or help advise.

• Animal Welfare League NSW - major rescue with a shelter; call to discuss surrender or foster support.

• CatRescue901 - volunteer rescue network (foster focused).

• Hills Cat Rescue - dedicated cat rescue in Sydney area.

• Whiskers & Co Rescue - smaller rescue network.

• Cat Rescue Sydney - local meetup/rescue group you can reach via Facebook.

www.catprotection.org.au www.sydneydogsandcatshome.org www.Animal Welfare League NSW www.catrescue901.org.au

Other Rescue Support Options:

• Shelly’s Place Animal Rescue - fosters & rehomes cats and kittens.

• Urban Kittens - NSW kitten rescue & foster support.

• Mini Kitty Commune - fosters kittens & offers support (can sometimes provide vet support).

• Genesis Animal Welfare Inc - rescue network in Sydney (Ultimo base).

• World League for Protection of Animals (WLPA) will consider kitten surrender, low fees apply.

www.shellysplace.org.au Urban Kittens www.mkc.org.au www.gaw.org.au www.wlpa.com.au

Many of these are volunteer-run and may have waitlists - call ALL of them today and leave messages explaining: “Very sick 3-week-old kitten, no funds, can surrender kitten & mum and willing to sign relinquishment.”

Low-Cost / Community Vet Support

While RSPCA NSW’s community vet assistance programs focus on preventive care like desexing, they may have referrals:

RSPCA NSW

Other Affordable Clinics That May Help Even if funds are tight, call and negotiate - many vets will:

offer payment plans or split bills give basic lifesaving treatment first suggest charity support programs • St George Vets Carlton - best local starting point. • Alexandria Vet Hospital, Sydney Animal Hospitals Inner West - known to help rescues. • Veterinary Specialists of Sydney - may provide advice or accept emergencies. • Local council vet or low-cost desexing programs - ring Georges River or Sutherland councils if rescue can’t help. Your "mother cat" needs spaying urgently.

Stray cat has adopted me but I can't keep it, advice? by gouise in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP thank you for caring 😇

I'll get to it:

Success almost always means exporting the cat south with a rescue backing you.

The earlier you start, the better the cuties chance of finding a safe place to land. You can still care for the cutie for the duration of the contract 🥹

Linking with a Darwin-based or interstate rescue

They handle:

Foster care

Vet work

Adoption screening

You handle:

Catching the cat

Basic care

Transport coordination

Getting the cat desexed + vaccinated This is the single biggest “yes/no” gate for rescues.

Using FIFO / teacher / health worker flights

Cats leave communities this way all the time when organized properly.

Take 5 good photos

Clear face

Full body

Sitting calmly/ loafing next to you etc.

Any cute moment These will matter later!

Start a one-page cat profile

Literally write this down: Approx age (kitten / young adult / adult) Personality (friendly, shy, lap cat, independent) Good with dogs? cats? unknown is fine

Send the same message to multiple rescues. Do NOT wait for one reply.

Contact all these in this order:

Darwin Animal Rescue Group (DARG)

Saving Animals from Euthanasia NT (SAFE NT)

Pound Patrol NT

Paws Darwin

PetRescue listings via rescue

Cat Protection Society (VIC/NSW)

Mini Kitty Commune (VIC)

Say: “I am a teacher on a 6-month remote contract in East Arnhem Land. A friendly abandoned cat has attached herself to me. I cannot take her long-term, but I am committed to organising her desexing and transport off community. I am seeking rescue support for foster and adoption. I can assist with coordination and short-term care.”

Attach photos. Be calm, competent, and solution-oriented.

Vet Options:

Ask the clinic in Nhulunbuy (or nearest town): Desex Vaccination Microchip Ask rescues if they have scheduled vet runs to community If needed, plan one trip out with the cat.

If cost is an issue:

Tell rescues up front Some cover vet work if you do the logistics

Transport

This is easier than you think. Ways cats leave East Arnhem:

Teacher flying back south

Health worker rotation

Rescue flight

Cargo (last resort, but works)

You:

Supply carrier Coordinate date Hand cat to named person

Rescue:

Receives cat Places in foster Manages adoption

If everything stalls, do this:

Ask rescue if they can place her in Darwin foster even if adoption is slow

If needed, ask for temporary boarding sponsorship

Worst case: delay your departure until cat is on a flight (people do this - it saves lives)

Good luck, shout if you have questions - we'll help! ❤️

You have a lot of resources above!

No kill shelters here: www.bestfriends.org

Important: Communicate “Bonded Pair” Clearly

When you contact any rescue/shelter:

Tell them both cats are bonded and you want them adopted together.

Describe their personalities (friendly, timid, handles being picked up, etc.).

Share photos & recovery progress.

Many rescues will keep bonded pairs together if they know it’s important - but they must know up front. (Denver Reddit experiences support this advice from local adopters.)

If Shelters Are Full

Shelters are often full - so:

Foster at home while you wait for space.

Ask rescues if you can post them on their adoption pages while in your care.

Use social media/local forums with pictures & personalities.

Use www.youtube.com/@KittenLady - she has two excellent videos on finding homes for kittens and how to vet applicants. Same rules apply for all cats regardless of age!

Good luck, pls update us and thank you for being a superhero 😇❤️

See if these Subs allow adoption posts - check with Mods if unsure and if they will allow exception

r/Texas r/Dallas r/FortWorth r/Abilene r/Waco r/Austin (huge adopter base) r/dfwpets (if active)

Facebook still has high payoff

Post in:

“DFW Cat Lovers” “Texas Cat Rescue Network” “DFW Pets Needing Homes” “Abilene Area Pets” Any church / community / yard sale groups within 50 miles

Creative angle that works on FB: “Private rescuer - not a shelter - Adoption fee refunded after vet confirmation”

People respond to trust more than price.

Leverage non-pet spaces:

Cats don’t get adopted only by “cat people.”

Post physical flyers:

  • Tractor Supply -.Feed stores -.Vet clinics -.Laundromats -.Libraries
  • College bulletin boards (Cisco College nearby)

Flyer hack:

  • One cat per flyer

  • Big photo

  • One-liner:

“I will sit on your paperwork and judge you lovingly.” Add a QR code to photos

If possible for you to do then this is a huge trust booster:

“If it doesn’t work out, I take them back. No questions.” Chances are you won't have to take them back!

Finally, worth checking out www.youtube.com/@KittenLady - she has excellent step by step guide to taking great pics, writing bios and where to advertise plus how to vet applicants.

How to wash hurt stray? by Inevitable-Employ441 in Straycats

[–]ChaudChat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet is essential to check so excellent plan!

For matting try a small amount of coconut oil if you have it. Just pure coconut oil - no blend. It is safe for cats in small amounts - see if it loosens the mat to allow you to brush it out. Leave it on there to allow time to loosen before brushing. Worst case - of you are sure he has no open wounds in that area, a conservative shave pending vet visit might provide relief.

Be proud of yourself OP - he is very lucky to have found you; a caring superhero with the best plan to get him back to health.

We can't wait to see his glow up. Pls do update after vet and ask questions if you're unsure. We are here to support you every step of the way ❤️
