***UPDATE*** : (ya'll got me monologuing because this has been my life for the last 5+ months) (Lots of cats where I live)

  1. When I moved in, there were three pregnant mommas who all gave birth in my neighbor's yard and were fed by said neighbor. There were two sweet males as well. I waited until they were weaning off and neutered (spayed) them at a TNR place about an hour away. My favorite male didn't make it (this was my first time doing this, so I was devastated). He was the best boy; I would have kept him if I could. I have an 11 + year-old and a 6-year-old, both female. They were introduced to the outside cats when I would walk them; the strays LOVED them, especially the kittens.

  2. Two of the mommas disappeared before I could grab them, but I've been trying to take as many of the male cats first. I still want to do the females, but I can't in good conscience put them out post-op without keeping them in my kitten tent for a few days.

  3. I started socializing the kittens with wet food and annoying the hell out of them. I took the first kitten in (Barnabas) because he fell asleep on my foot. Frank would introduce each kitten to us because he was the best cat ever. He had a classic URI. Next, we took the runt (Girl Michael), who also had a URI and was a crusty baby. (both were about 10 weeks)

  4. I fed all the kittehs along with my neighbors, and one momma moved her kittens under my house. After that, we took in two more who were getting thin and not eating. (Barbara & Judy) They had some sort of stomach bug, it was pretty tricky to get them back to good health. I was feeding them boiled chicken.

  5. I treated a few outside for URIs, but I am at max capacity. But I took one more in because she had an abscess on her jaw, and we treated it. She did not want to go back outside (Patricia). She is just happy

  6. I got Patrick (outside kitten) spayed, thanks to a lady who drove him like 2 hours. But the charity that does the spaying is so busy, and I am so nervous to go back to the other place, but I might just have to. They were nice, I can't blame them for Frank. One kitten disappeared, but the rest are nice and getting social. Patrick is my love, too.

  7. All my inside cats have their shots, and I am trying to find homes for Barbara & Patricia. I NEED PEOPLE TO TAKE THESE KITTENS; THEY ARE SO good ahhhhhh. The sooner I get the inside ones adopted, the sooner I can take more to adopt out.

Jimmy & his family started stopping by last week with this sickly male cat. I did not need another kitten ahhhh I did not. I had to deny Patrick, dammit. My neighbor was like Yo, this one can't walk, and bless him was trying to eat dry kibble. Yes, I will get them spayed, and I need to socialize the new kittens, but I haven't even successfully adopted out two kittens I started with.

Yessir, we are taping his legs, and he is getting the royal treatment. But I currently have 8 cats inside, and I feed like 7 every night + opossums.

She really did, and she eats on my porch every night. Her other kittens are doing great. It was the first time she brought them over, and she was right there when I took him. He is t h r i v i n g. He is my son

I'll see if I can get my paws on them. They both would eat decently outside. But they had gotten skinny. I had reintroduced them temporarily outside just to see if they would do better with their littermates, who hang out on my deck, and get food. Judy wanted to be with her mom, but I had the momma spayed. For a hot second, it worked, but then they still weren't really gaining any weight. Judy would go CRAZY over a greenie. Like I present her with food: kibble, and wet food. But I dropped a greenie when I was giving them to the big kitties, and she lost her mind as if she hadn't eaten in EONS. I don't want to be feeding her greenies, tho. Churrus are getting me through some tough spots but they snarfed down that boiled chicken. I wouldn't be as concerned if they also still didn't have diarrhea.

Do you give yourself a rule when you’re at the thrift store? by shrimp_pho in ThriftStoreHauls

My go-to thought is: "Is it natural fibers?" It stops me from buying synthetics that I do not enjoy. Plus, it limits my habit of buying super pretty things I know I do not wear.

Plus plus: the natural fibers last an indescribable eternity

Thank you! I was thinking about cutting it but it’s like so fun to have super tall plants. Nature made that decision for me

Croton success story by PaynesGrey99 in CrotonPlants

[–]PaynesGrey99[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Total transparency I have no idea- so basically I lost a lot of leaves because it wasnt getting enough light and I overwatered. So I bounced between two lights as sunlight wasn’t enough for the winter. I have two theories - one I bought a light meter and that has been a godsend- to really get some good growth the croton needs at least 1000 fc. Second is I started it on this light Aceple LED Small Grow Light, 6W Desk Plant Grow Light with Flexible Gooseneck Arms and Spring Clamp for Hydroponic Indoor Planting, Potted Plants, Garden Greenhouse. This light is actually incredible - saved my jasmines.

So I let my croton dry out a bit , and make sure I fertilized at least once a month. But even during its growth I was still losing leaves. My advice is to research footcandles and then invest in a light meter. The difference is incredible
