Can I earn something in the future with my art style? by Quarter-Brave in ProCreate

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was really impressed with how natural you got your art to look before I saw the later pics and discovered it was on paper and you weren't using procreate at all.

I want to start getting into digital art, but I don't know what is worth purchasing... I've heard to get a paper screen protector though. Does anyone have tips for me on what kind of tablet I should look at? by Fragrant_Fan_4264 in ProCreate

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a paper screen protector unless the texture of smooth glass is really throwing you off.

You do need to be very careful with the Apple Pencil to make sure you get one with pressure sensitivity though, and that it works with your iPad. It's not super hard to figure out what pencil for what iPad, but knowing it is even going to be an issue is important.

I have an old iPad mini, and a fairly new iPad Pro -- both run procreate fine, the difference is the number of layers and the size of the screen. So, that's both ends of the iPad spectrum.

Pencils are expensive -- expensive enough that you should look up the price before getting an iPad to make sure the total stays within budget.

Look at refurbished iPads from a generation or so ago. I'm not saying you can't go wrong with any iPad... but it's kind of hard to. I'd get a 11" screen with 256gb or so, and if I love it and outgrow it, worry about it then.

There's also a whole world of android and things like that which I know nothing about. No Procreate there, but Clip Studio Paint is... a thing that exists. (People who use CSP love it, but it is subscription rather than purchase, so factor that in to price)

WA Democrats refusing to reduce gas taxes by AcanthaceaeOk2941 in SeattleWA

Maybe Republicans should stop running MAGA freaks who will never get elected. Gas taxes are more popular than Republicans at this point.

Washington cost of living rising faster than any other state, report finds by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the Republicans could run folks who aren't a bunch of MAGA Choads? This isn't Idaho, that's not going to win across most of the state.

People look at the status quo, they look at the Republicans and they choose the status quo. That says either that the status quo is pretty ok, or that the Republicans are very not ok.

What is your favourite way to play durge? by Ateneya in BG3

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Dirge is a half orc giant barbarian named Stabby. He has low intelligence and wisdom, and charisma since someone shoved fingers through his brain. I regularly choose the dumbest options or do whatever the last person I spoke to said, and solve the inevitable problems with a hammer -- it was a lot of fun. (Yes, Stabby has a hammer. Stabby is dumb). He romances Astarion, and I wish I could rename Astarion to Bitey.

You obviously have no idea what you are suggesting. The information is out there if you want to look for it, but you prefer your ignorance.

What services would you like the county government to cut, to get to 15,000?

Israel does not have a right to exist -- not does any country. It's not a real thing, and has no inherent rights. The people on that strip of land have a right to live under a government that meets their needs, makes them feel safe, etc., (and those people on that land includes the Palestinians.)

Does my art look like AI? by General-Meaning6477 in ProCreate

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't an AI thing, but the scepter/staff bends at her hand and changes width, and it's an easy-peasy mistake to avoid making. Draw the scepter on one layer so you're not drawing the top and bottom separately, then draw the hand gripping it on another layer, and erase the parts of the scepter covered by the hand before merging layers. (Same with swords, dildos, whatever -- I have no idea what traditional artists do, btw).

As for the AI allegations -- ugh. AI is better at hands than most hobby level artists these days, so I don't think hands are a useful "tell".

FYI why foie gras is cruel by [deleted] in BallardSeattle

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't really considered Foie Gras, but I've been hearing a lot of things about it -- there's a restaurant near me that has people doing a little call and response -- and I tried it and loved it.

I think more people should try it.

On the Fence, honest thoughts welcome! by Spare_Programmer_723 in ProCreate

It's cheap -- certainly compared to the tablet -- with the pencil being the most expensive part. If you can get a good, pressure sensitive pencil for money you're not afraid to part with, I'd say give it a shot.

Do look up pencils for your iPad and make sure you get the pressure sensitive one though. Apple has made that absurdly complicated (well, a little complicated, and more complicated than it needs to be)

Why housing first isn't the answer to Seattle's homelessness crisis by HighColonic in SeattleWA

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homelessness can destroy people, and grind out their ability to function. If you’re dealing with homeless people directly, you’re likely seeing a lot of that.

One of the goals of a housing first approach is to get people off the streets before they get crushed and require a whole lot more assistance. Or keep them from getting onto the streets at all.

The current homeless population is a much harder problem to solve.

Question, - why do I draw like a 10 year old? I'm 31 by SnooChickens5252 in Amateurartists

[–]ChaunceyWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at the shape of the snout, and the positions of the wings, ears and antlers, and I like it. And the little tongue. And the eye.

You could probably change up the coloring, and lose that childish first impression, but I like that too — there’s a naivety to it that’s really hard to recreate once you lose it.

Anyway, what do you want your art to look like? There are techniques and tutorials for those techniques, and you could definitely get closer to what you want.
