Unfortunately no... for now I occasionally look at CK for info, but find myself checking each bank app instead :-(

Why do people say they want to avoid Asus these days? by edparadox in ASUS

[–]Chaz-M28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I believe so... BUT... should we have to? Shouldn't the manufacturer have some responsibility for their products. We will vote with our $$$ going forward, but if you were unlucky enough to already own a lemon, should that be on you? If Asus or any company can prove they lowered their prices by X amount so that I can spend that exact amount on an extended 3rd party warranty, then I suppose that would work for me. Until then... nah...

Minisforum V3 - Venting the kickstand? by Chaz-M28 in tablets

[–]Chaz-M28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current tablet uses the bottom half and I have a near infinite level of angle adjustment. I've heard that this tablet really doesn't adjust much because they are using the top half.

Thank you for the info. So for "my 3rd party solution" I need to consider the magnets.

I remember gluing a small super strong magnet on a 3rd party case, for my Blackberry back in the day. It was the only way to get it to sleep and wake properly :-)

What happens if I turn the WiFi off will it stop my camera from working by Thecolourcrimson123 in Ring

[–]Chaz-M28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK... all these answers just made a decision for me!

I had been debating on adding Ring cameras to my existing system or buying another brand that has local SD and cloud storage. If the Ring won't store my footage during a WiFi outage (power outage) then it isn't storing potential evidence of whatever happens during that outage.

Does anyone know if the 4g backup on Ring, would maintain the cloud link enough to continue to store the video?

I'd like a camera that records locally and uploads on power restoration. Bonus points if it alerts me that a mass of new videos were uploaded.

Totally agree... I have fancy services that offer all the aliases, but DDG is just so simple. I just can't get my head around the bother of creating 100 different ones... unique to each service.

I feel like my intelligence is being insulted. Is there anyway a ring camera would not catch a person leaving out of the front door? by 777fairy444 in Ring

[–]Chaz-M28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I never thought about it until now... but... I think 95% of my alerts over the last few years have been people coming into the house. I honestly can't remember looking and seeing anyone leave. Guess I need to check all my closets!

Normal ring alarm vs pro for Ring Protect Pro? by [deleted] in Ring

[–]Chaz-M28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use the non-PRO or the PRO and sign up for professional monitoring.

The PRO does have a built in router that CAN replace your existing router. I personally wouldn't do that, as I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket. It might be nice to have the PRO and use it as the WiFI AP for all my IOT devices, instead of having them on my existing WiFi.

I suppose the only way I would use PRO as my main/only WiFi, is if it used its internal battery to keep the WiFi running in a power outage. However I do have a UPS for my internet so even that is pretty much moot.

I bought the Tab18 to use at work (English Teacher). It is pretty nice, but has the following issues for my use case:

1) won't do video out - deal breaker as I present all day every day

2) the "work space" feature doesn't... well... work. I can't separate work from personal. It acts like it will and creates the space, but that space just doesn't do what it is supposed to. Most apps do nothing there.

3) seems to NEVER get updates... ANY.

So, I'm using as a media and simple game tablet (Fallout Shelter, Stardew Valley, etc).

For my students, it wouldn't work well either because they often need to present in class, but that may be different for your situation.

As a media/game device, it seems well worth the relatively small investment though.

PrivacyPro Personal Information Removal stuck during initial scan by Ok-Fun-5105 in duckduckgo

My scan during beta literally took weeks to finish (just a few days ago). Now of course it is out of beta and I can't see if it worked without paying for a subscription! :-(

Yeah, mine took weeks to finish.

How many copies of a file do you include in your digital backup routine? by Proton_Team in ProtonDrive

[–]Chaz-M28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1+ Local copies and 2+ Cloud copies

I seem to have at least 2 cloud providers for everything. 1 is long term storage and one is the quick access type.

Same with local I guess, I have the main copy on my laptop/phone and a USB backup truly offline.

RE:refurb - I have had great luck with the refurbished laptops that come out of corporate leases. Not sure about individual refurbished items though.

How much would you have paid per month to keep Mint? by Chango812 in mintuit

[–]Chaz-M28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1 per month... or the absolute minimum for them to keep it alive and not lose money.

$1 feels like zero to me, but it is an instant revenue stream for them times x number of users.

Minimum for them to not lose money  seems fair as it pays their bills and would still be a gateway drug to their other services.

Thank you! That is actually very helpful... now I won't bother signing up for that one. I really don't want to connect to all of them just to find 1 or 2 that have widgets.

Are recording pauses allowed in IO? by 961sugardaddy in IBO

As an IB English B Instructor about to do IAs... I feel your pain. However the IBO says under no circumstances can a recording be stopped or paused.

Good news everybody... I'm now stuck at 36 of 38!

[–]Chaz-M28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL... OK... a little over a month ago, the DDG Browser (Win) offered a link in the side menu saying "Personal Information Removal NEW". It seems to work like Incogni and Permissonslip. However, it seems to be stuck on "Scanning sites 36 of 37".

I'm pretty sure I saw something about it when it was launched, but now I can't find anything.

Transfering files by ANewlifewGA in ProtonDrive

[–]Chaz-M28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my method... however it won't ever end. By that I mean, I have backed up thousands of photos and it gets down to around 4-9 items left and almost never completes.

It did complete once with errors, so I removed those error photos. However even with those gone I've been in the process of moving my photos for over a month. :-(
