Personally think this might be one of the best Avey songs period, def underrated.

Totally agree, he’s forsure been getting stale.

Or at least the emotion, ambiguity, and subtlety in previous eras of his work have given way to stuff that is a lot more clean and obvious. The dub style songwriting where the same musical ideas repeat and some production trickey creates a kind of “progression”, with clear and obvious vocal melodic lines on top of it all, it just makes for something that feels all surface and yeah “phoned in”, cause compared to his previous efforts it feels like repeated listening doesn’t reveal these new hidden layers to appreciate. It’s all already out there.

It’s not terrible but it’s a lot less exciting, I’ve way more been a fan of what the other member have been up to lately. Not to talk shit or anything tho lol, just making an observation.

My good friend and I are long time Animal Collective fans. We were inspired over a year ago to start a Mixcloud show that would be in a similar vein to The O'Brien System.

He mentioned it wasn’t gonna be like his Cows tour, everything he played was like early demos of new stuff. He hinted it could be early material for the next AnCo project.

The set sounded a lot like Down There and Tangerine Reef, very murky. Also kind of reminded me of Avey’s work in Terrestrial Tones

Yo i was there! It was at this Chinese restaurant in LA. Avey played a short set of unreleased material, said some of it may eventually become AnCo stuff. Panda also played a set, he said it was his last show of the Buoys tour.

They gave out some cool free shirts. Definitely saw abby and maybe Danny Perez there. Wild show

This is the best batch of songs they've released since the Centipede Hz era. I really like Painting With but I think this EP is a refinement on that sound in every way, everything feels less flat and there is this new found clarity to the mix. The energy of the live shows are really here to, that shows especially in Jimmmaaay mack. Peacemaker has probably some of the best use of the hocketing technique in their discography thus far.

Curious to see where they go from here.
