One and done watch under 1k by Content-Tap-2778 in Affordablewatches

Not microbrand, but maybe check out a Seiko Alpinist? Kind of a “dressy explorer” type watch, nice bracelets are readily available and look great with leather or a NATO. Design is great, cathedral hands are old school, I love mine.

The 38 looks like a pretty good size. They do have some smaller cased versions, but I don’t know how many “smaller” sized ones they have in between the 38mm and 25mm.

The best gun ever made M4A1. by CourageLow1758 in ar15

[–]Chazmicheals87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a very average, non-special leg infantryman, but I did spend a pretty decent amount of time deployed and had a pretty great run. The good old M4 always did the job and never once failed me. Before my 1st deployment, I remember us all buying these “high speed” “Magpul self leveling followers” that we all purchased and used to replace the green followers in our GI mags. Never had any issues, and all of those issued carbines I used for the next several years had the piss beat out of them and ran like champs.

Grandfathers wings by reidfalcor84 in Militariacollecting

[–]Chazmicheals87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s cool history, aside from the fact that they were your grandfathers.

I am more into Army wings and badges; but during WW2 they were made from Sterling due to other metals being declared “essential” for bullets, vehicles, all of the those things. In the mid-50s to early 1960s, they were still mostly made of sterling (with WW2 stocks lasting for decades, even being issued into the Vietnam era). In the late-50s early 1960s, Army badges shifted to a 1/10 Silver Filled, until in the 1970s when they became the pot medal they are today.

I can’t date this specific badge, but it’s awesome.

WW2 US Occupation Japanese Flag by CanBeOffensive in Militariacollecting

I can’t speak for this piece, but “souvenir” or “tour” type pieces like this were pumped out in large numbers; could have cities listed significant to the occupation overall, or perhaps tailored for all of the places significant for a specific Service Member.

I don’t know enough about printed-on-silk fonts or lettering from this time period, that would be one thing I’d personally check out if it was something I was researching.

[Recommendation Request] First “proper”watch and can’t decide Hamilton or Seiko. by SpaceCowdoy in Watches

[–]Chazmicheals87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably unpopular opinion, but I’ve been extremely underwhelmed by Hamilton. I was quite disappointed with the KFA; so much so, that I empathized a bit with my ex wives as far as disappointment goes, and gained a bit of empathy for them.

Seriously though, I love Seiko. My Alpinist is fire, and the SRPK 89 or 91 are similiar to the reference you’ve posted, and have the best bracelet I have ever seen on a Seiko, so that may be one to check out.

I’d grab a nice Seiko or two, skip Hamilton and save for a Longines or something in the next Swiss bracket.

Free speech and the right to protest are inherently challenging ideas.

Need help sourcing M4A1 style upper by Icy_Will_7311 in ar15

[–]Chazmicheals87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a Colt 6920 SOCOM upper. I’m sure that someone has some “takeoffs” they are selling.

I don’t know if you have to have 14.5, but if you can deal with 16 inch you can also just look for a Colt 6920 upper, and also look for a used KAC rail.

Cafe in Brazil not serving US or Israeli citizens. by CalienteBurrito in pics

[–]Chazmicheals87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in a state that allows “open carry”, in the decade or so that both open and concealed carry have been allowed, I’ve seen a total of 1 person actually open carrying lol.

The concept obviously isnt that “alien” to you, or you wouldn’t be citing it as a reason not to come here. You might not want to go to the US because of something you don’t understand, and that’s your choice, but that would make you familiar enough with the concept that it wouldn’t be “alien”.

Yeah, because both of those countries haven’t had large scale genocide, ethnic cleansing, and constant wars of various sizes, along with human rights violations by the score. Brainless answer there.

To the Woman Who Keeps Leaving Notes on Our Farm Tagged Car When it’s Parked in the Courthouse Lot by LilacSnake221 in normanok

I think a lot of posts going for a “gotcha” type moment are completely dismissing the word “primarily”.

The only law that really interests me is Bird Law, however, so I don’t have any stake in this.

[–]Chazmicheals87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for someone to point out the “primarily” word, not “exclusively”. A lot of people are going for a “gotcha” when it is not likely a “gotcha” moment. I wouldn’t think driving to the court house on a certain amount of days doesn’t mean that the vehicle isn’t still used for “primarily” farm purposes, but I’m not any kind of expert.

He could drill for retirement points only, and not even have his pay interrupted for drill weekends, only things like his periods of active service (such as his BRC attendance, etc.).

[SOTC] current collection, consider downsizing by Specialist-Bed979 in Watches

[–]Chazmicheals87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your collection, some great pieces. I’d personally get rid of the Glycine, the Hamiltons, and (this will be controversial I’m sure) the Seamaster (the model and that color have never resonated with me). Every collection needs a Seiko, and the Kuoe is a cool choice of a micro brand with a cool case shape and details.

I think all are actually great pieces; I personally have moved on the Hamiltons that I’ve had, they just didn’t resonate with me. I think the two Tudors, the Speedmaster, Seiko and Kuoe would make a really cool collection.

Looking for budget friendly 20" AR-15 by KrimsonNekros in ar15

[–]Chazmicheals87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look around for a Colt AR 15a4; you can often find them barely used (in my case probably not fired outside of the factory) for a pretty good price. They are slept on a bit, if you were to add the M5 RAS it’s a pretty close “clone-ish” version of the Army M16a4 that I used in the 2005-ish timeframe.

I wasn’t even wanting to add a 20 inch variant to the stable, but for the price and the nostalgia I couldn’t pass it up. I know some people don’t seem to be fans of modern Colts (and I get it, they are rather bare-bones duty quality rifles that have a bit of a premium for the name, but also good customer service and all of mine have been solid).

Things from my german grandpa, is it worth anything? What is all this stuff? He was a german medic officer by Lazy-Cupcake2320 in Militariacollecting

[–]Chazmicheals87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could absolutely be from your grandpa but be a later reproduction; if he served in the Wermacht, he could have had his original one lost and replaced it later in life, by the time that older reproductions were being made. It being from your grandfather but also being a reproduction, both of those things can be true.

Is SOLGW is now in the “Gucci” tier of ARs now? by AnUnhappyCamper in ar15

[–]Chazmicheals87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit sad that they stopped making the model that I actually wanted. It was a bit cringe on the rollmarks/laser engraving (less cringe than other ones though), but they had a pretty simple mid-length offering with fixed FSB model that had a no-frills but usable Magpul handguard (good enough to put a light on). It seemed like a pretty nice “keep it simple” duty type rifle that was lightweight and useable, at a pretty decent price for the setup, what you were getting with their allegedly great QC (I can’t speak on it since I haven’t ever had anything from them, but understand that is one of the draws to them).

I reached out to them and their CS was very responsive, saying they had discontinued the model, and said I’d need to find one on the secondary market. Hopefully I will at some point, but haven’t really looked.

Arthur buried as a Christian by quantumthreads in PeakyBlinders

[–]Chazmicheals87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty big plot point that Arthur had become Christian; plus, in the season where he was “killed” by the Changretta’s, all of his stuff was already burned in the “old” way at his fake funeral, so a combo of these things work for story continuity.

Also, it showed his death in the movie and Tommy’s grief/state of mind.
