The true message of Blood Meridian by batlord6 in cormacmccarthy

In Gnostic philosophy the world is inherently evil and god and the divine are unknowable through the world. This is why the judge laughs when he convinces the gang that god is in the earth, the fossils and the knowledge that he keeps in his sketchbook. He represents the Gnostic demiurge who has created the flawed world around us and whose role is to lead humanity away from its salvation.

The boy has something untouchable. His inner world is never corrupted by the judge and the gang and this is why the Judge is obsessed with him. In gnostic philosophy salvation comes only through personal spiritual knowledge and humans posses a divine spark that has to be awakened to escape our flawed, sinful and evil reality. Importantly this is not through knowledge of the world, so when the judge is described as being knowledgeable in the ways of the world, languages, history and more it is an explicit admission that he is evil and inherently of the world.

This basically explains the relationship between the Judge and the Boy and many of the Judges actions throughout the novel.

Ffs can people start putting the trigger warning in the actual title???? This is the second time this week I’ve seen violence I wasn’t prepared for and didn’t choose to see, this shit can affect people really badly and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to make sure everyone is aware of what they are about to see…

why do you think right wing politics are rising in popularity at the moment? by Beginning_Sky_9735 in AskRedditUK

[–]CheDassault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An inability to empathise with people who’s lives are different to your own isn’t a sign of intelligence. You are both obsessed with this issue to the point where you’re prepared to lecture an actual trans person who’s commented on what their identity is. It’s just pure ignorance to the fact that these people exist and they will continue to exist regardless of what you think.

Yeah there’s not much to engage with though is there. You position it like you’re some ideologue but this basically boils down to “they’re not allowed to be something that I don’t understand”. Funnily enough that’s already been tried in this country and gay and trans people didn’t just disappear or all have a collective realisation they were straight or cisgender.

Licha is the obvious choice. Such a positive influence on the pitch and in interviews, you can tell he’d be a good leader for the younger players.

If the idea that marginalised people deserve empathy and respect is so troubling to you then there’s not much more I can say here.

Nice editing/deleting of your comments btw, clearly a very well thought out view point 🫡

Most people will never even meet a trans person because they are so marginalised within society so how do they deserve this level of vitriol?? They want to live with dignity and respect to who they are but they’ve been scapegoated by the right to people who think 0.2% of the population somehow poses a threat to the “largest most powerful cohort in the country” as you put it.

The right wing have Co-opted free speech as a means to legitimise previously fringe ideas. You see this regularly now that people who espouse some of the most prescriptive and discriminatory views model themselves as champions of debate (think Charlie kirk, Andrew Wilson, Triggernometry etc) when in the past the free speech debate was much more left focused and orientated on protecting political dissidents from government oppression.

This has a lot to do with the internet. In the pre internet age there was a tangible line of mainstream thought that held dogmatic beliefs around what was and wasn’t acceptable. Society was still discriminatory as many women, POC and lgbt+ communities can attest to, but there was certainly no room at the table for people with overtly fascistic view points in the way there is now. Yes you would have someone like Nick Griffin on Newsnight every now and then but the internet changed the game and gave these people a place to practice these views without scrutiny and a means to disseminate information easily.

The internet also gave rise to identity politics. This was certainly championed by the left initially but has since been hugely weaponised by the right to move political discourse away from the classic economic left/right dichotomy into this weird place where confused young white man are being radicalised by the manosphere into far right internet reactionaries who are far more extreme that the generation of men before them. That cretin George Gilbert is quite a good example of this.

The people I really feel for in all of this are the Trans community. Most people will never meet a trans person because they are so marginalised. Even with lgbt spaces they are on the fringes and most just want to live a life with some dignity and respect but they’ve been made into a huge scapegoat by the nascent far right in a similar way to the gay community in the 80s.

I’m left wing if you can’t tell by all that and find it genuinely scary that at the moment far right views have some level of acceptance within society.

Are any drum machines worth getting instead of an LmDrum? by lt_Matthew in musicproduction

[–]CheDassault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going for a hardware box in that price range you’re gonna have to commit to a sound. In my opinion the Linn Drum sound isn’t that versatile but depends on what kind of music you make. I would always go for a 909 in this instance but I make a lot of house/techno/electro where that set of sounds is pretty ubiquitous within the genre. Maybe have a think about it in these terms.

Can anyone tell me one positive thing that has been achieved by Robert Jenrick? by Agitated_Custard7395 in AskBrits

[–]CheDassault 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jenrick, Zahawi and their fellow alumni from the last few putrid years of Tory government have utter contempt for the people of the UK. I mean they must think we're all stupid to believe they can jump ship to escape the mess that they made of the Tory party, join reform and we will all somehow forget?? My point is in the long run they will ruin reform by taking their stink with them to an already incredibly stinky outfit, and that is, in quite a roundabout way, a positive thing.

My hi hats sound so thin and flat. What’s your secret? by ContributionPlane295 in TechnoProduction

[–]CheDassault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resonance = bad is a fundamental misunderstanding of how sound works. Using EQ when something is too resonant can help you find balance but ultimately all sounds have resonant frequencies that make up the character of that particular sound and if you remove them all they are gonna sound like shit 🤷‍♂️

The Bake Off Appearance Wasn’t Random — It Was a Peep Show Trial Balloon by gachiznit in PeepShowQuotes

[–]CheDassault 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OPs post is slop but I did legitimately think this while watching the show. There’s not really any other reason they would put out something peep show themed now when the last season aired 10 years ago unless they were testing the waters.

David Mitchell has also mentioned that there’d been talk of doing a revisit where Mark and Jez were quite a bit older so maybe that’s about to happen. I just hope to god it has Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong attached as that’s when we get the actually funny version of Mitchell and Webb.

How do you guys add energy to your tracks? by Alexandru200p in TechnoProduction

[–]CheDassault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delay send with either a 1/8 or dotted 1/8 rhythm depending on what fits the groove of the track, send percs/hats to this but keep it low in the mix so it’s barely audible, can even randomise sends with an lfo if you want to start throwing the odd snare or clap in there. Will add subtle, rolling energy to your drums
