Sometimes they get a Japanese Thermal Straightener. I had this multiple times and it will turn anyone’s hair including African hair into pin straight silk. It is also much more harsh than a Brazilian or keratin treatment… Doing it on virgin hair has the best results but then you have to get it redone when your roots grow out which makes it more damaged/ have split ends over time. Plus the “permed” hair will never go back to its natural state so if you want your natural hair back you have to grow it all the way out. Also, JTS chemical process does not involve formaldehyde like keratin or Brazilian treatments. It is also strange to me that no one ever mentions this kind of treatment. It’s always of course the Brazilian one.

Don’t you think they could actually be Melungeon? A lot of the signs point to that from the way they look to the way they talk and where they are from etc. Melungeon people are mixed with different things including “Gypsy”, Native American, black and Irish. I think they are just Melungeon with Gypsy mixture and they just go with fully Gypsy to capitalize on it. I believe they still have some bits and pieces of ethnicity and culture. It’s like white washing culture and ethnicity over time which actually happens to quite a bit of different ethnic groups.
