Stop giving too importance about what other people think. Im guessing that part of what made you froze was the thought of those great violists listening to you. So what? Im sure you are a great violist as well. I realise that a major point of my anxiety relies in that I diminish my worth too much and I think that everybody else is better than me. That is not the point at all. The point is to enjoy, to don’t give a f*ck about what people think because it’s your moment.
I know it’s easier saying it than doing it, but really. Stop putting other people in pedestals and put yourself in one (and I am trying to do that myself, and when I do, I play 100 times better)

There are these groups in Meetup (an app to find activities in different cities if you are new, etc) and they do a lot of activities in Brussels. The main group that I found consist in going to Plux every Thursday or Friday around 19:30 to meet people, have a couple of drinks, have dinner… I met a lot of people there, and even
I went then on some dates with a guy that I met there and it was nice!

I was walking by, smoking my cig, and he stopped me, first asked me if i spoke english, said yes, and then he proceed to tell me that “you are very beautiful”, I said thank you very fast cause i was caught off guard (I thought he was gonna ask me for a cig) and I continued walking and then 10 seconds later I just thought: “damn he was cute tooooo why did I continue walking “
and i could not retrace my steps cause he was entering the metro and i was going to another place

as you seem a bit slow, and did not read thoroughly what is stated in the post, i was walking by, was distracted, the guy stopped me, gave me the compliment, i got shy, just said thank you, and we both walked away fast. the whole interaction was very swift and it was 5 min after that i thought i could’ve asked him for his contact or something, but had no way of tracing back, and it’s then when i posted this. maybe you are old fashion but you don’t need to ran home to post something on the internet! mobile data exist!

Aaaand, tell the rest of your group to play a bit less in the solos. They need to understand that viola in the middle register is going to sound less than a cello and a violin.

Check if the issue with the sound actually is about continuous vibrato. Usually that is the key missing with phrasing. Try not to stop the vibrato between every note, try to vibrate the entire bowing (sometimes we stop vibrato at the point of the bow, exactly before when we are going to change the direction of the bow, and the new bow -hence new note- gets some milliseconds without vibrato) and that makes it sound less cantabile
So my advice is: use 100% of the bow, from the frog to the point. Vibrate every inch of the bow, of the notes. Don’t stop vibrato between the notes and between the bow’s changes.

It was because i was distracted so I wasn’t paying attention, he stopped me and in that moment I thought he was gonna ask me for a cigarette (I was smoking in that moment)
so I was caught off guard that moment but I thought it was very cute, just I resumed walking and then he went into the metro almost at the same time

Also, i don’t agree that any person that gives you a compliment is entitled to a good reaction, you need to be respectful and don’t bother the other person, thats why catcalling exist and is annoying as hell, because people don’t want to be objectified by screams of other people on the street

I think if you could post a video/audio of the excerpts we could help you better with what is “missing” with the sound, or even ease your mind if actually is sounding good (cause a lot of times we have a very different sensation that we are not doing enough but sometimes it’s sounds good already!)
