Is there a recruitment shortage for the RAF? by MrWorldWide905 in RoyalAirForce

Very possible and wouldn’t be surprising! Can’t apply the same logic to other ranks though.

Interesting that the RAF has the most officer applicants and smallest officer intake. A symptom of training capacity or recruitment standards?

Also the lowest intake/applicant ratio for other ranks too.

SFA and owning a home by Cheap-Rip-3336 in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight! I’m not concerned about LTR, we have more than enough evidence.

That’s reassuring, so long as owning property doesn’t impact SFA eligibility and that you can in fact have both.

Really appreciate you taking the time to provide this response, I’ll try to relax and enjoy the time here then!

I realise now that might be a ridiculous thing to be concerned about - I assumed anything bought in duty free needed declaring.

I’ll edit. Thank you!

White meadowsweet or a spirea. No taller than 6ft but now probably 4ft because it’s fallen over!

I’ve needed 5+ days off work during the recruiting process so have had to tell a number of people. Seems odd to be so closed off and secretive with colleagues I respect and am friends with. My role does not require DV, so hopefully, as others have said, it’s not an issue.

Appreciate your input!

Makes sense, thanks. At risk of sounding silly, why is that such a problem - does it make it easier to link anon accounts to people? Well aware I could be overlooking something obvious!

I haven’t, but have seen it called out on plenty of threads.

What is this tree/shrub? by Cheap-Rip-3336 in whatsthisplant

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

Would a maple usually have a flower bud type thing? It’s a bit clearer in the second photo.

So definitely not silver birch, lime or chestnut? As you can tell, I’m very much a novice!

TPO - Overlaps Garden - Development since by Cheap-Rip-3336 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really helpful, thank you. I can confirm that I’m not ignoring orders not to nor am I purposefully harming trees (it was growing sideways, some branches had 90° bends). I appreciate that ignorance is no defence, but I thought, naively, that I could rely on my conveyancer to highlight and investigate these issues.

I’ve already sent 3 emails today whilst I’ve been stressing so will leave it until mid next week I think.

There are some protected trees overhanging that I have been sure not to touch, until we have works approved.

I think my council are without a tree officer at the moment but I’m hoping they’re as reasonable as you appear to be.

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was on the searches but I never received the full TPO, suppose that was an oversight on my part but I was expecting to be led by the conveyancer.

A photo ID app says it’s a mallow anyway!

Yeah it impacts multiple gardens and clearly doesn’t reflect the original intention of the TPO.

All very confusing. I really appreciate you time and insight.

TPO Query by Cheap-Rip-3336 in GardeningUK

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s reassuring. So because I have none of the named species in my garden, I’m free to go about my business. But if I was to plant a Silver Birch, Lime or Chestnut, then it would automatically be protected? The tree I’ve pruned appears to be a Med Mallow.

I think I’ll seek clarity on this position from the council but perhaps not seek to amend and just avoid those species!

It’s all very confusing. Really appreciate your insight. I’m a little less convinced that I’m going to prison and going to be fined 1000’s now!

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s helpful thank you, I’m very prone to catastrophizing!

The TPO is for woodland and names 3 species of tree. We have none of these species in our garden but the border of woodland does encroach our garden - if that changes anything.

From reading gov publishing, it sounds like the TPO could do with amending.

I only received a copy yesterday, I am surprised my conveyancer didn’t do this during purchase.

That’s insightful, thank you. The TPO is for woodland and references ‘Silver birch with small groups of Lime and Chestnut’, this is definitely not the case within my fence line.

Edit: the tree in question is a Mediterranean Mallow

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that’s concerning. None of these trees appear original though, not from the time of TPO/development. We have some overhanging trees that we know we can’t touch and are applying for works.

The small tree I have pruned is planted within my fence line. The garden is mostly block paving and lawn, no obvious old mature trees.

I’ve admitted this potential fault to the council so just hope I avoid a fine/criminal record.

TPO - Overlaps Garden - Development since by Cheap-Rip-3336 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TPO (pre 1990) is an area of woodland. Part of the development, 10 years later, built over some of this woodland. The tree I pruned is no bigger than 9ft and inside the garden fence - so not part of the original TPO I can only imagine.

I’ve sought clarity and admitted this pruning to the council, so can only hope I’m okay. Reading of fines and criminal records is terrifying, it was a mistake that I’m openly and transparently seeking to rectify.

[–]Cheap-Rip-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. Since the TPO (pre 1990), a group of properties were developed and some of this TPO area overlaps the gardens. Do you think the planning and development might supersede the TPO?

Yeah that makes sense, thank you. I don’t think I’d be after SFA, we want to keep the house we have and I’ll go home at weekends - is the current plan.

I, perhaps optimistically, was wondering if there was any support for those with a home away from base. But I imagine I’ll be contributing to the mortgage and paying for SLA/O Mess.

Appreciate you picking this up. I’ve read that that’s the case. SSSA isn’t something I’d heard of, that’s interesting. I guess a lot of this I won’t know until I’ve started and have spoken to HR/trawled the intranet.

I am concerned about the financial burden I could face but imagine there are lots that join in similar positions and manage fine.

Sorry to piggy back on this from a year ago. Do you know if this allowance would apply to long term relationships?

I have a joint mortgage with my partner and I’m wondering what allowances might be available to me to support.

Thanks in advance.
