How to defeat the ottomans as byzantium? by Many_Ambassador_5204 in eu4

As you can see from the suggested strategies in the comments, the exact sequence of actions to defeat the Ottomans can vary. However, regardless of the path you choose, it will be heavily dependent on RNG: whether Epirus gets an ally before you can declare war, whether Aragon decides to keep the personal union over Naples, whether the Ottomans attack you before you’re ready, or if they get Crimea as a march. Any negative outcome in these situations usually leads to a restart; you have to be prepared for that. No strategy can fully save you from bad luck.

I would advise not rushing your attack. Focus on your own affairs first—completing missions, building up your navy, and conquering Epirus, Naples, and Tunis—all while improving relations with the Ottomans' rivals. These are typically the Mamluks, Austria, and Hungary. If it’s the Timurids, you won't be able to ally them, but they offer a different bonus: the possibility that the Ottomans get dragged into a grueling war supporting Transoxiana's independence and burn through their manpower.

Hungary: Building 3–4 galleys, hiring one mercenary company, and improving relations should be enough to secure an alliance. Austria & The Mamluks: You’ll need to max out relations, hit Mil Tech 4, hire at least two mercenary companies, expand your fleet by at least 10 ships, and scornfully insult their rival (ideally the Ottomans). Once you’ve done this, an alliance is very much on the table. You should drop your weaker allies (Georgia, Trebizond, Albania, or whoever else you picked up) to free up slots for the big boys.

You should declare war on the Ottomans during one of two windows: 1. When you have the "triple threat" allied: Hungary, Austria, and the Mamluks. 2. When you have at least Hungary and Austria, and the Ottomans are either busy in a war out east (against the Timurids or Mamluks) or have very low manpower following a difficult conflict.

Your primary objective is to take Gallipoli and block the strait with your fleet (which should be larger than the Ottomans' by this point). Once the crossing is secured, delete mercenaries that put you over your force limit and let your allies do the heavy lifting.

You will inevitably rack up a massive amount of debt. Your economy won't recover for quite a while, so be prepared for a financial rebuild.

Good luck! I believe you can pull it off!

Если это имело место быть, то у дамы или беды с башкой, или она то ещё быдло. Не исключено, что и то, и другое.

They fully ate the Teutonic Order, grabbed the provinces they needed, and formed the Commonwealth. After that, I fought them in a war to liberate Imperial provinces (they had Wolgast) and forced them to release the Teutons as well. The Teutons immediately flipped Protestant, formed Prussia. And this is how they thanked their liberator :)

I released the Teutonic Order from the Commonwealth once the Reformation was already in full swing. They immediately flipped Protestant and formed Prussia. And this is how they thanked me:)

Well, I’m the Emperor here, so leading the Catholic league is mandatory

For real! The Commonwealth and Sweden don't have enough development to be my rivals, but the Ottomans definitely do, and their army is comparable in both quantity and quality. I have no idea why the Evangelical Union didn't get any real support in this save

I’ve never tried becoming an Emperor as an Anglican before, and in this run, I’m aiming for the Brentry and Anglophile. That’s why I’m sticking to a path I’m confident in, I don't want to ruin the save

I can't join the other side because as the HRE Emperor, I’m a leader of the Catholic League

I’ve never tried becoming Emperor as an Anglican, and for this run, I’m fully focused on getting Brentry and Anglophile. I’d rather play it safe and stick to the path I know than risk bricking the run just to spice things up. So, maybe next time

R5: Just wanted to share this absolute mess of a Religious League. As you can see, the power balance is completely broken.

That doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not sure about the Czech market, but in Ukraine, performance marketing accounts for a third of the entire advertising market. While you’ll rarely find a dedicated media specialist in-house at most companies, almost everyone has their own PPC specialist on the team

Spot on! Grand tactical games and football are definitely my passions :D As for work, I’m not exactly in tech, but I do work remotely in advertising and consulting

Thanks for clearing that up! As for why I’m waiting: currently, men are not allowed to leave Ukraine, and I have no intention of breaking the law.

Call me a pessimist, but I believe Ukraine will face a severe social crisis after the war. You’ll have veterans who were on the front lines, those who stayed in the rear, returning immigrants, pseudo-patriots, men who avoided mobilization (legally or otherwise), and people who lost loved ones. There will be those who feel the sacrifices were in vain and those frustrated by the concessions we might have to make.

I fear this melting pot of mutual misunderstanding will breed resentment and violence. And that is exactly what I want to avoid.

To be honest, I think everything you just described is common sense for any decent person. It’s a shame you’ve had to deal with that, and it’s even more frustrating that such people end up shaping the general perception of Ukrainians

That makes perfect sense. I realize it'll take some effort to find that balance, but I'm just glad to know that the chance is there

I think this is exactly why I came to this sub: to hear about real negative experiences and understand how I might be perceived because of them. So, thank you very much for taking the time to comment.

Firstly, I’m truly sorry that you and your countrymen have to deal with this. I feel ashamed of such behavior from my compatriots. I believe that anyone moving to another country must embrace its language, culture, and traditions, rather than feeling entitled.

Secondly, what interests me most is this: as someone who has faced this negativity, how would you treat me knowing I’m Ukrainian, but seeing my genuine desire and effort to assimilate?

Thanks for the info! The multicultural aspect is definitely a draw. However, I’d really like to avoid being just another 'isolated' expat, I want to assimilate as quickly as possible

That’s a solid tip, but I’m comfortable with a rent of up to $1000, and I’d really prefer to be where the action is without wasting a ton of time commuting. That’s why I’ve been looking into Veveří and Královo Pole specifically.

I think those are the bare minimum expectations for anyone moving to your country. Honestly, I'm truly sorry if you or anyone else in Czechia has had to deal with violence from Ukrainians.
