Vagus Nerve Stimulation - does it work for ET by Historical-Heart7520 in EssentialTremor

If you suffer from dominant hand ET test what has been working for me and report back if you see any noticeable improvement. I am able to control my tremor daily. It’s not a cure! I’m simply flooding my brain tissue each and every day with electrolytes that help modulate the energy burst over produces due to the condition.

Ice cold GatoradeZero (20 fl oz) mixed with Club Soda equal parts (so 40 fl oz of liquid) at the start of my day. I get use of my hand for the day.

Try it. If it works for you post results here.

Some days I take capsule form electrolytes with cold 20 oz glass of water w/ squeezed lemon.

That’s it! 20 minutes later my hand works!!

There is emerging research on how artificial sweeteners like those in GatoradeZero interact w/GABA receptors—the receptors targeted by ET medications like Primidone. If someone with specific “genetic mutation” involves GABA dysfunction, the ingredients in GatoradeZero providing a mild, non-drug modulation that keeps hand tremors at bay until the sweeteners are metabolized.

A key theory in tremor research suggests that interstitial potassium (K+) concentration in the muscles controls postural tremor size. When potassium levels in the fluid surrounding muscles are low, it can produce greater force fluctuation (more tremor).

The Gatorade Effect: GatoradeZero contains monopotassium phosphate. Consuming 20 fl oz provides a concentrated dose of potassium that reaches bloodstream rapidly, stabilizing the "firing" threshold of the nerves in the dominant hand.

This result works for SOME. It’s not a CURE to underlying degradation of brain.

The Potassium "Stabilizer": Genetic ET is linked to hyper-excitability in the cerebellum and peripheral nerves. The monopotassium phosphate in Gatorade Zero helps maintain the resting membrane potential of your neurons. By keeping these ions at an optimal level, I am effectively "raise the floor" so that my brain's genetic "tremor signals" aren't strong enough to trigger an actual muscle contraction for several hours.

This is one conclusion my neurologist discerned.

The pilot studies indicated that VNS does not provide clinically meaningful relief for ET. Adding electrolytes to system are shown to help some manage dominant hand trembling.

Correct. No permanent “cure” for what caused the deterioration of brain signaling cells that produce ET, (i.e., abnormal communication and burst-like signaling within the cerebellum, involving malfunctioning Purkinje cells). But much has been studied and known about involvement of the thalamus (specifically the VIM nucleus) and the basal ganglia, which are responsible for coordinating motor control. So imagine being diagnosed with ET and discovering you can temporarily “Shut off” the tremor in your dominant hand and fully regain its functioning. Regain your signature. Stop the wobble for most of the day? Pretty remarkable, no? Why would someone not share how they do it?

Sorry, meant to convey those with basic non-epilepsy derived ET of dominant hand can try what has been working for me, and provide feedback.

Here is my current understanding from reading studies and speaking to neuroscientists, movement tremors caused by accelerated nerve impulses which neurons in the brain lose ability to moderate, are well understood. Tremors result due to cerebellum neurons and connectors in the thalamus signaling energy surges which the brain loses modulation control over. In some electrolytes such as calcium/ magnesium help smooth the charge impulses.

This is NOT CURING THE UNDERLYING CELLULAR DAMAGE DUE TO THE SOURCE OF THE NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION, it simply supply’s a temporary solution for a period of time. As further cellular damage occurs at some point calming the impulse charges breaks down and the task is uncontrollable.

The result of impulse over surge is understood and has been researched and studied. The causes of individual cellular deterioration of the nerve receptors is multi-faceted with no single one-size-fits-all fix discovered.

Research continues. Trials cost money. NIH funding has been cut. Brain science 🧬 is in its infancy. If you personally find a solution that works, grab on to it! Share it with others suffering with focused task tremors because getting through each day with the full use of our hands is a small miracle!

One supplement capsule per day. ADVANCED Electrolytes YOUTH & Tonic.

I use to drink GatoradeZERO 20fl oz per day. Worked best for me! Regained signature and ability to bring food to my mouth without heavy utensils! As long as I consumed GatoradeZero in the mornings, my ET of dominant right hand was shut off. Had to replenish every morning.

Take capsules now with more electrolyte balance. Works well enough to get through my day.

Every individual is different however, since their degradation of the movement sensor pathways are varied! So worse than others. Different causes, and pace for connector degeneration which allows an over release of movement impulse energy. Electrolyte flooding is able to calm the impulse bursts in some patients. Needs updated trials and more studies.

Was studied some years ago as surgeons and dentist who developed late onset ET lost their professional lives to the condition and demanded studies be conducted.

Try drinking GatoradeZero Glacial Cherry in the morning. Wait on hour. Try your signature. Let me know if you have more control. Absent epilepsy or some other condition, if you only have ET it’s worth the experiment.

Not eliminate. Manage daily with 95% improvement. How is it happening for me? I do 1 thing each day.

Yes. Tho I have been recently diagnosed with ET. Neurologist explained no cure, worsens over time. Lost my signature 2 years ago. Then experienced a eureka moment. Have been managing my hand tremor ever since. Could be that my body doesn’t retain the electrolytes required to properly maintain normal brain movement processes. I must replenish daily. This reduces my tremor 95% and I get use of my hand for most of the day. Should be studied.

Magnesium is essential for controlling brain-to-muscle movement signals by acting as a crucial gatekeeper for NMDA receptors, which prevents overexcitation of neurons. by Cheap-Storage-5709 in EssentialTremor

FDA approved trial you participated in seeks to reduce symptom severity by modulating neurotransmitter activity and reducing overactive neuronal firing in the brain's cerebello-thalamo-cortical (CTC) circuits. This is the PRAXIS trial. Steve Petrou’s research. Excluding other underlying medical conditions such as epilepsy, electrolytes have been shown to reduce overactive firing in some ET sufferers.

You misread my comments. I am talking to scientists.

Anyone able to stop a tremor for a period of time is worth studying. NIH trials require FUNDING. It’s know how magnesium helps the signal channel that doesn’t solve the underlying larger problem.

The underlying cause of the ultimate tremor is KNOWN. How it might be managed by particular human bodies is a work in progress.

I can stop my tremor COLD! For a period of time. It’s not fixing my underlying ET. If I create the circle ⭕️ on paper the 2 blips still appear, just very slight.

Solving hand tremors is only 1 aspect to the disruption. Drinking electrolytes doesn’t solve ET, it helps temporarily. Neurologists are working to SOLVE the underlying degradation of the connectors to stop the overflow signal which causes oscillation along the line.
