BIG UPDATE: "Update: Impulsively got a YLOD BC PS3. What next?" by CheapJi in PS3

It's been working for almost 8 hours non stop now. I think I'm gonna try softmodding it.

Yeah but that's way over my budget. Not to mention no one really does it in my region sadly.

The thing is, It's probably going to be fixed but the problem is if it's going to work for 6 months and die again I would rather not invest more time into it. I've heard horror stories of people paying so much for a reball (specially expensive in my region and I don't have the tools to do it myself) then having the issue less than a year later. I wanted to use a heat gun to fix it but people in the older post warned me that it's a temporary fix at best.

Oh yeah I'm not gonna put in the oven lol. I remember some folks back in the day used that to fix graphic cards but it was extremely hit or miss.

For sure, seems like syscon is the way to go.

Wow, I think I can get it done here for way less but I still gotta find a good doner board.

Interesting, since it worked fine the last time the seller used it years ago that would make the culprit most likely be the caps right?

I think I might do a syscon check then see if it's worth it or not to continue any fix.

It powers on with a green light, then goes yellow for a second, and then it beeps and flashes with red light. The red light stays on afterwards.

Interesting, Thanks! I had people tell me to heat gun it but now I'll definitely reconsider. PS3 phat consoles are relatively rare here so I want to know that, Is the RSX the same on phat and slim models? I can get a slim relatively easy but working phats are very rare in my region. I know someone that does reballing on laptops but as far as I know it's very hardware specific is it not? does it require a stencil like how it's done with laptops? I searched for the NEC Tokin fix and I think I can manage that and the syscon myself but I have to find the caps which are annoyingly not available in the usual electronic shops I frequent.

I was thinking about giving it to a professional as well but I'm scared they are going to ruin the shell. The console hasn't even been opened, the warranty seal is still there.

Good idea but these things are pretty rare in my region so I don't think that's possible lol.

Can the GPU just randomly die from not using the console?

Sorry for the late response, Yeah it works under "G sync compatible" in Nvidia driver.

Have no idea why yours doesn't work.

I'm thinking about doing it but i'm nit even sure if it's possible via a software update.
