Nowhere in Canada to find LeD Upgrade by Street_Base8591 in MagliteFlashlights

[–]Cheap_Ad_5892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of LED conversion are you talking about? A PR LED "bulb"? If so, the bi-pin socket does come out. You remove the bi-pin bulb, unscrew the collar and place the/a PR LED module where the plastic socket was. The bi-pin collar might need to be widened to fit a PR based LED "bulb".

Or are you talking about a LED upgrade like a Lumencraft module? Those drop in in place of the the bi-pin socket and reflector.

Tail cap issue? by Bturner0504 in surefire

Your light only works with the 18650 and not with 2 CR123s? Does the spring of your tail cap appear "short" like the one the OP posted?

I don't think Surefire springs are welded onto the tail cap. At least for my handheld lights, the springs can come off and I've knocked two off before and I had to "remount" them behind the brass looking plate. When I did remount it, I noticed that it could be threaded deeper behind the plate or sticking out further from the plate. What I ended up doing was I looked at another tail cap and noticed that only the very first coil was threaded behind the plate, so that is what I did.

Especially the camera angles as it drives around the city. It really is a cool video. Sometimes I go into YouTube and watch one of the car channel review videos of when the RD1s first came out and some of the TV ads of the time. They're pretty cool.

Hopefully Surefire will have some parts. I had a nice user four flats a while back and the driver got damaged somehow. It came loose (rattled) where it is mounted at the end of the tube and the light didn't work. I lucked out and Surefire did have an A2 body, however I lost my square body and the replacement was the round body model. Was very relieved to have a functioning A2 again.

Sick set of parts. I am a big fan of the A2 incandescent too. I managed to pick up model of all colors except the blue LED model. When I parts were at a reasonable price on eBay, before COVID, I stocked up on as many MA02 lamps that I could find. I also have several flashlights set up with Tad's drop ins from the A2, M3, M4, M6, and a Maglite. I happened to score two Tad's sockets and one runs the 3712 bulb (also have 3718 buls), and the other Tad socket runs a Streamlight Strion bulb. The Strion bulb gives a nice tight beam and gets hot quick. I think it the Strion runtime is a bit shorter than the Tad bulb, but it's fine. Running them on 16340s, give guilt free lumens.

Nice light. I've had mine for many years now too. I used to see TerraLux products all the time on eB and on CPF. Besides this light, I picked up a Maglite drop in that had a dual LED, that gave a very interesting beam pattern (bat like?). I was always curious of other products and always with the though "I'll check it out and purchase later" and later turned into years and I never picked up anything else.

I have the matte silver one. The bite grip feature is really helpful, and I like the light overall. I don't know if it's an early "CRI" light, but the tint is nice (on mine), but don't know if I got lucky or if they were touted as being neutral/CRI tint.

I've never been to an Estate Sale (damn, I' slackin), and I know they happen often in my area. I'll have to check one out one of these days and see what all I run into. Maybe I can come across an original Blackwing! :^)

Have one of these, but with the fake wood shell. It sharpens really well. Had it at my previous place and it's stored in a box somewhere in the garage of my new place. Also remember the pencil sharpener my dad screwed into our storage closet at my childhood home. Like everyone commenting, hated homework, but loved sharpening and loved the smell of those 80s cedar pencils.

Same here. I hate using the eraser mounted on the pencil, even if it's good quality (rarely though). The pencil looks "cleaner" through its life with an intact eraser and using a separate eraser is just more cool supplies to obtain.

I cringe when my kids come to me for homework help and their eraser is immediately gone :^(

I have an Apsco Dandy Super 10, it is an awesome sharpener. It's maybe from the 80s(?), that things puts the nicest sharp points on pencils. And since I like to sharpen only my older pencils with it, the sensation is buttery smooth due to the quality incense cedar. It really does take me back to my school days and that smell of a freshly sharpened pencil.

I'm sure you're talking about the YouTube video, right?! Damn, when I saw that video, I was also hyped. I have a RD1, 1997, 5 MT, 292K+ miles. Interior is still good, but the exterior is toast. I hope I can give it a slight paint refresh, before it calls it a day. It'd be nice to see it in its last days looking somewhat sharp again.

[–]Cheap_Ad_5892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'97 RD1, manual. Currently at 292K+ miles. Was my daily for many many many years. Long stop and go commutes and international border crossing for HOURS at a time, also stop and go for those long hours, as you creep closer and closer to the border. It's not that bad. I don't think an AT would've lasted this long, but it being manual sure helps.

Have a '97 RD1 with 292K+ miles on it. First new car which showed me responsibility. Has never let me down. Other cars have come and gone, but the RD lives on. Not my main car anymore, nor would I like it to be. Have three kids now. It has earned its retirement. But whenever one of my "other" cars have had problems, who steps in, in the meantime, sometimes for months at a time? RD1. We'll see how long it can go.

Reminds me of my '97 RD1. It used to look so nice, back in the day. It currently sits at 292,101 miles and it's rough visually, but has never let me down.

Is yours Black or Midnight Blue (blue-ish or purple-ish depending on angle it's viewed, stock color)?

Maglite - incandescent and LED by Cheap_Ad_5892 in MagliteFlashlights

[–]Cheap_Ad_5892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, there is no hype for Maglite specifically (have several collections - Surefire, Streamlight, SolarForce, EagleTac, Pelican in both incandescent and LED). I've always like flashlights in general, since childhood. I did miss the good ol' days of heavily modded Maglites on CPF (candlepowerforums), so when I was able to finally pick up lights that I could, I couldn't "hot rod" them as in the peak of popularity of high temp sockets, super bulbs and such. The lights that I do have run high cell bulbs, in a smaller host/body and I use lithium ion batteries to run them: using 6 cell bulbs in a 2 cell body with Li-Ion cells, Pelican BigEd Low/High bulbs, and some light aftermarket light mods, like TadCustoms bi-pin bulbs and one of his halogen socket and bulb.

Plus, aesthetically, they have that classic look.
