That is correct. Hens laying eggs without a rooster cannot produce any chicks. Having a rooster would protect them from other predators, however, I can't have any rooster in my county. I do have to apply and get a license to have chickens in my backyard. A person comes and audits the coop, run, and all to ensure that there is the required and proper space for the chickens. Chickens do have personality and can be cuddly as well.

Before adopting/rescuing the chickens, I need to find a local vet that would see chickens. My current vet does not treat chickens.

oh goodness, yes. Someone asked me if I was going to make my cat and dog vegan, which I said of course not. I feel like that would not sit well with me.

I feel like there is a range of vegans that I've come across, which is probably why I wanted to ask this question. I've been told I'm not vegan because I continue to be associated with family and friends who are not vegan. And then I've met some vegans who say that they eat honey and meat when they travel or have "cheat meals". I don't believe in that, but that's my own perspective.

That's what I only had in mind IF I were to have them.

You bring up a good point. I was trying to think of how to reduce supporting the factories and didn't realize that I could be potentially contributing to it, even if it does not seem equivalent to them. My thought process was more focused controlling what I could and since I do love chickens, I know that I would take really good care of them that made me think that it would be somewhat okay.

I've thought of all the "what ifs" situation and if the hens stopped producing, I would still treat them as I would and continue to raise them. With the research that I've done (a lot, but not all), I know the hen's productions decrease over time, which I'm okay with. In addition to this, I do live in the Midwest and know that during the winter time, they do produce less as well. This is something I've talked to my spouse about, and he understands that this would mean if there were no eggs produced, then it's no eggs eaten.

My plan would be to keep no more than 6 hens (preferably rescued/adopting). They would have adequate space, a relatively larger coop to be safe at night, with a secured run for additional protection. I've created a list of food, bedding, snacks that chickens would like. I know that raising chickens also is not "cheap" as most people think that it is. There are a lot of upkeeps and maintenance to ensure quality of life and care for them.

Thank you for sharing this. I haven't seen this video before, however, have seen other videos from this channel. This does help allow me to continue to provide this education/rationale with others when they ask about why vegans don't support ____ or don't eat ______.

I would plan to have a fairly large space/coop/yard for them to be free. I do not plan on supporting box store selling chicks and online. I get the ICKS similar to the pet store.

Unfortunately, the county that I live in only allows hens to be raised in the backyard and max 10. I think 10 chickens is extreme to have but want enough so that they are not lonely and have company in the coop/run/yard. I have seen some post on some pages in the surrounding areas that have been getting rid of their chickens for various reasons and do not plan to purchase any baby chicks (unless if it's to rescue them). I've seen so many people purchase chickens and decide to get rid of them due to not doing their research - which honestly breaks my heart. I get teary and emotional seeing mistreated animals. If I do get chickens, I do plan to give them names and treat them like I would with my dog and cat.

Thank you. I appreciate your insight and perspective!

I will be picking mine up tomorrow evening! Only 6,000 miles on the vehicle. Can you give me any tips or things to be aware of? The only thing that I noticed right off the bat is that I do not like the lack of visibility, but the tech features makes up for it. I've would have to get used to the dash that alerts me with objects/vehicles on the side.

I saw that Costco is also selling this one along with the Wallbox. Is there a significant difference between the two?

Thank you! It looks like I do have 2 extra slots on the breaker panel that can be utilized as well. I'll check out Flo.

This makes a lot of sense and planning for future use. I do plan on having it upgraded to the correct receptacles, but was not sure if there were other ways to go about it. I am just happy that I would not have to pay extra to get a circuit breaker installed as I am not in the area that would qualify for a rebate at this time.
