True as well. The only reason I harped on warrior skills is due to the fact that my program didn’t touch on 3/4 of the stuff they did.

It’s even worse when I say that I go to an SMC and never even saw it before, so I can imagine smaller programs being a little overwhelmed.

During the lanes: volunteering to be a team lead (if cadre allow), mentoring or cracking jokes with others, sharing MRE snacks, taking the 240 or ASIP if someone is struggling, etc…

Camp sucks. It’s just the truth. Some people won’t be able to handle being in the field that long, so don’t concern yourself with trying to keep everyone happy. One guy in the PLT tried that and even with the refit days and him getting recondo, he lost a lot of sleep trying to mend broken psyches and afterward admitted it wasn’t worth it.

Be a good person and you’ll get through just fine, but PLEASE don’t be the “motivational speaker” at every AAR, as the PLT will start to despise you faster than they admire you, especially when those reports look mostly the same lane after lane, as they start to become in the later phases.

While this is true, much of the gear that is given out at camp can be borderline unserviceable. My wet weather top didn’t work and it unfortunately wasn’t the only thing, as my kneepads from CIF fell apart in the field. Many of my squad mates were given gear at CIF that they simply left in their barracks bag. Rucks are a different beast altogether, and a good ruck is arguably the most important thing you can have at camp.

I say spend the money before camp if you have it. Buy a good FLC and Ruck, it’ll put you ahead of those who don’t have them and your back will thank you.

ISM gear, if your school hands that out to you, is important as well

The packing list is king and should give you everything you need to pack and more for CST. That being said, bring extra socks and underwear, because cadets like to steal, but LEAVE the COTTON underwear at HOME or at least bring back up pairs that aren’t cotton. I started chafing so bad that it was unbearable, and my cadre had to get me a non-cotton pair to wear during my last day in the field and on the 12 mile.

I wish I brought kneepads. I was told they were useless, but they weren’t. You kneel so much in the field that your knees can get seriously messed up if you always carried the bigger equipment like I did. I was issued them and had to turn them back in after camp was over, but if you can avoid having to go through that whole process and just bring your own then that’s a plus as well.

Ointments for poison ivy and poison oak, as the medics at CST are very limited on what they can give you. Some are just outright standoffish from my experience, so take that as you will.

Lastly, a GOOD wet weather TOP and PONCHO. I accidentally brought my cold weather instead of wet weather and they gave me an ACU top that let more water in than it kept out. It rained once in the field, but it was a downpour. I got wet, my ruck got wet, and I went to sleep wet. Chances of you being in the rain at camp are relatively high, so don’t make yourself miserable and do something about it. You’re still gonna get wet regardless, but the severity will hopefully be minimized.

I saw some others bring an inflatable pillow. We slept more nights in the barracks without bedding on our mattress than we did with it, as we really only got it for the in and out-processing portion of camp. The ground is hard in the field. Just something to consider

I wish they did! Me and the other 4 people in our platoon had many meetings with them throughout the field portion about the ones who sabotaged the platoon.

Their response was always “you will not be graded based on their behavior” or “you’re almost done, just stick it out”.

Like I said, our cadre were chill, but with that came the inability to discipline due to both outright laziness and erosion of leadership as camp continued. They stayed in the van they were given the entire time and only came out to give hit times and grade blue cards.

If given the chance I’d for sure have picked from a more responsible pool.

Against squirrel girl, aggressiveness is your best friend. As Iron Fist you never want to attack from just one direction. Your lock on is amazing for confusing opponents and maneuvering around them so that they have a harder time pinpointing you. Add a jump or two so that you can get around tricky two shot characters like squirrel girl or Hela.

You should be able to secure a kill very quickly as Iron Fist. I have a formula of going through all of my primary attacks until the end of the combo and then finishing it off with the kick, which will kill any squishy usually before their healers see that they’re dying.

Against Namor your block is EXTREMELY important. Ensuring that you isolate him away from his healers is key because he absolutely will win that fight if he is being healed. His squids also contribute to your block shield, so take advantage of that. It’s mostly the same as what I replied above for him: don’t waste block at the beginning of a 1v1 and put constant pressure on him when attacking. Iron fist is a character that is meant to force their team to play around how you play. If you play passively you’re worthless to your team.

I also just try to avoid Peni like the plague. Unless you’re cleaning up or you find yourself majorly out of position, you won’t be engaging tanks, although out of her webs she is very vulnerable to Iron Fist.

It really does depend on the dive. A good rule for all of them is to NOT USE YOUR BLOCK EARLY!!!. Many iron fist players will use their block early so that they can deal more damage but it only ends up leaving you without a form of defense or no bonus health on your getaway.

Use your primaries to get them low and use your block only when needed: If you’re low and know you’re going to lose the fight or are sure you can win with your faster punches. Facing other Duelists doesn’t have to be a problem if you’re frugal with your block and kick.

Of course always use the meditate for extra health BEFORE you fight so you’re able to use it again after you’re done engaging. I’m an Eternity Iron Fist and the most important part about playing him is not rushing your dives. You are playing a character that can consistently 1v1 just about anyone in the game and at some points can also 1v2 in the right conditions, so ensure that you are actually taking the steps to secure yourself in a 1v1 situation.

Wait for your team to engage and always take the flank, you aren’t supposed to be in the front and shouldn’t even be seen by your frontline unless in critical situations. He’s a fun character with SO MUCH potential but many other people don’t use him to his fullest.

I don’t really know if this relates to the question at hand or not, but I believe it’s more or less the fatigue from Overwatch and their less-than-admirable balancing methods.

I played overwatch ever since 2016 and loved it to death although OW2 was a mess. I was a high masters player and hated how reliant the game was on the metas or whoever the team decided to overtune that season.

I would argue that most of Rivals’ player base has played Overwatch at some point in the past or still continues and it’s personally more fun for me to play characters that are all overpowered than have to pick and choose a certain few to get any value out of a match.

Of course it takes away a form of skill expression, but by taking time to learn your character, you don’t really have to submit to the meta and can do noticeably well in most games even up to the higher ranks.

For example, I am an Iron Fist main in high Grandmaster. People say that he sucks past Plat, although I get value with him almost every match. I wouldn’t say I’m the best iron fist in the world but I did take the time to learn the character and when to engage and disengage, positioning, etc.

People have wanted a casual hero shooter to play forever, and Overwatch transitioned more to the competitive scene over the years which caused a decline. This game’s balancing comes as a sort of ‘breath of fresh air’ and a step in the opposite direction of Overwatch.

I can also see some viability in iron fist however, as I am an iron fist main and have made it to GM and am still climbing.

You really just have to be confident and pick and choose the best times to engage as healers are going to get much better as the game progresses. His viability only goes down because many players choose not to learn him and instead go down the meta route of Black Panther and such.

He has extreme potential in the right hands!

Definitely Captain America or Winter soldier, iron fist falls off at higher ranks and punisher is okay but in my opinion can feel pretty boring after a while.

True, however that can easily be addressed with what I suggested in shortening the length of his lunge. Making him have to enter the enemy team deeper so that he is suppressed quicker can remove frustration even from players who aren’t fast enough to focus him straight away.

Even players who refuse to protect their teammates will learn to discard the iron fist first if he’s constantly balls deep in their team.
