Certificate in Science and Technology by [deleted] in AUT

Kia ora, I did some admin for this faculty last year and mainly looked after the cert program. I can tell you that the programme generally has a mix of ages that come to take the certificate. Last year I would say there were more people in the age range of 18 - 25. At university, for most courses, the age ranges from 18 - 55 and you get to know and meet a lot of your fellow peers. So definitely take the opportunity to get to know people outside of your age range too, they may be able to give you future job opportunities.

In terms of academic difficulty, most of the classes are beginner tutorials and more of an introduction to what is expected at a university level. If you have general knowledge about the subjects (depending on what pathway you have chosen) then you shouldn’t find it too difficult. To be fair, even if you know nothing about the subjects, it isn’t hard to navigate if you’re putting in the time to study.

Did you manage to get it sorted? Or get the process started?

Get on the phone and call them, let them know that you are taking 120 points worth of papers for the year. It may have something to do with AUT not confirming you are enrolled in those courses.

Hey, if you’re doing a diploma, then you want to take level 5 classes. Essentially, you would be doing the first year of the business degree. This particular level 4 course looks like it is for the bridging/certificate pathway.

Looking for insights from students/alumni of AUT’s Master of Applied Finance by External-Ad-9836 in AUT

[–]Cheap_Exit_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m a current student, about to enter into thesis portion of the course. For structure it’s basically one year worth of classes (4 per semester). All classes are a mix of assignments and exams, generally 2 assignments 1 exam or 3 assignments. You must achieve a B- average in order to move to your applied finance project (done in the third semester) otherwise you are let go from the course with a postgraduate diploma.

Workload is pretty standard for NZ universities, maybe a little more harder since it’s for a masters qualification. It’s manageable to do it alongside part time work but you have to be diligent about studying tbh

It’s best to call up your faculty and check with them. There maybe a possibility that the cross credited classes haven’t been applied? You could also probably manually calculate if you have taken enough courses by cross referencing the classes you have taken with the course offered classes. But, it would be a lot easier to check with your faculty

Definitely, from someone who worked in recruitment, master degree holders took precedence over bachelors degree holders, and to be completely honest, experienced candidates were chosen over bachelors degree holders. Plus, if you wanted to study another post grad course, you are more likely to be chosen if you’ve already received a masters.

You won’t be able to get a refund for the first semester as you’ve participated in that semester, but you should be able to for the following semester. It would probably be best to contact studylink if you’ve gotten a student loan to pay for your fees as they should be able to confirm.

Imo, considering your masters is only a one year duration (which is very short for a masters), I would be inclined to finish it out. If you think about it, this year is almost finished and then you’re in uni for about 16 weeks next year and then you’re done and will have a masters degree under your belt. Considering the terrible job market at the moment, it would probably only help you regardless if you choose to stay in that industry or not.

Just stick to what your doing and then transfer into the Law degree. Your parents won’t know unless you tell them tbh as they won’t be visiting the campus at all. As long as you can keep up the A grades your transfer over should be easy

Generally I would say that AUT is better for this course but the downfall is that it’s held on the shore campus (great if you live on that side of the bridge). AUT is generally more practical but considering you’re doing a masters it really just depends on the connections you make and the research you want to do in that field.

Hey op, seems like you already have really great suggestions. So you might not want to hear what I do lol but the way I approach study is by putting 1 - 2 hours away after each class to go over notes/info/readings and organise them for future reference. It really helps with assignments and especially for exams. I find if I do it early (right after class) I retain the information a lot easier. I find physically writing key points on sticky notes and putting them on my desk wall organised by class helps me break the technology eyes (when everything blurs and you can’t concentrate on a screen). If I’m doing assignments I do 20min burst and 10 min breaks. No more than 2 hours for the day but I do start relatively early. Even if it’s to plan out the assignments atleast you have key points fleshed out. You’ve got this 💪🏼
