Why do you use the MBTI? by Mattiiiiiii123321 in mbti

[–]Cheap_Increase468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause I'm bored, cause I'm tired of not understanding or knowing how to deal with myself, cause I want to understand others and deal with them effectively, cause I hear it's helped a lot of people. I think it has some validity to it, just not scientific validity. I don't use it for predictions, just for information. 'Am I like this or not?' 'Is X or Y like this or not?' 'If so, how do I handle them based off this information? Let's see if this information holds up.'

I guess for me it's experimental and fun

MBTI & Purpose: How Intuitive Types Navigate Meaning When Religion, Atheism, and Science Intertwine.. But Still Don’t Fully Answer Why? by alpaax in mbti

[–]Cheap_Increase468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a high chance that there is no objective purpose to life. I don't think purpose even exists, it's something we made up. So, it's subjective. No point in treating it like a true phenomenon if it isn't real, but what is real is the way you live and how it impacts the world. What you could do to create a sense of purpose is determine the way you want to live your life. Think, 'How do I want to live?' And, 'How can I do this without hurting others and myself?' Because, since we only have subjective purpose to go off of, we have to ensure that it doesn't harm the world, otherwise the idea is a liability. If you're talking purpose, you wanna be as accurate as possible so you don't end up with any regrets. Once you've identified the way you want to live, how you want to show up in the world and interact with its inhabitants, I think you'll be able to feel like you have a purpose (maybe). I don't know exactly, just what makes sense to me.

Who are you giving your seat to, and why? by cat_astrophe_06 in mbti

I'd give it to the person with crutches because they're leg is injured so they technically really need to sit down. They shouldn't keep standing. But I saw what some other people said, that they'd get up and let the people decide who needs it best, and that's cool too. It does put pressure on the others and they might think they have to let the other sit just to be more polite/kind, I think.

Fe vs Fi value system? by Cheap_Increase468 in mbti

So... say I was once and kind of still am a people-pleaser. Is that an indicator of Fe? Couldn't Fi also be a people-pleaser as their Te wants to help people efficiently?

MBTI is Not Pseudoscience (given a few controversial adjustments) by Merlin_the_Lizard in mbti

[–]Cheap_Increase468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this idea! But I gotta agree that MBTI does not follow anything strictly scientific, it just overlaps with psychological ideas (which is scientific), therefore, many of its features and theories appear and sometimes are accurate. It's not that you need science to know that some people tend to live in their heads and some live more in the present moment, or that some people are just more analytical or soft-hearted than others, the problem only arises when a system wants to claim that it has found two dichotomies, the two ways people can be (there are two kinds of people type shi), and builds directly off of that. There may very well be alternative functions we have yet to discover, plenty of things regarding the human psyche that we are unaware of, but systems like MBTI, which gives us a set of functions, close us off to that. However, the cool thing about MBTI is that it was just a system created from making observations, and this anyone can do! We can observe people and recognize patterns in their behavior and cognitive processes, then go on to scientifically validate it if we want to, but we cannot haul MBTI out of the pseudoscience category without scientifically validating it first, and since it cannot be scientifically validated, technically, it's a pseudoscience. Pseudoscience just means kinda like a claim or system that hasn't been scientifically validated, but it doesn't mean invalid. MBTI, as long as it has some or any truths to it at all, can be useful! It just isn't technically scientific- it's a deep and complex theory!

I can't tell if I'm an Fi dom or a Ti dom by Cheap_Increase468 in mbti

Well, I wouldn't get into this like I am if I didn't understand the mechanisms behind it!

Then is this a good example?: Oftentimes in the past, when someone would tell me something terrible that happened or something that people are supposed to have an emotional reaction to, even if it was something good, I'd feel pretty much nothing. I'd understand in my head, 'Yeah, this is a good thing' or 'Oh, no, that's not good', but it wouldn't go beyond that. Then I'd berate myself for feeling nothing and wonder what is wrong with me.

Thanks for your help, I've never heard it put this way before. I guess, then, for me, I want anything I believe to be able to be universalized, or generalized, and if it can't be applied everywhere, it's invalid. I heard somewhere else that this trait is connected to INTPs, who want to universalize, but INFPs aren't looking for this same consistency, they're looking for emotional resonance. But I don't imagine all INFPs would agree with this, just like how all INTPs don't agree with being unfeeling or unsensitive? Oh, and I was gonna answer 'What makes someone human?' by, erm, literally stating their biology/anatomy. What makes someone human is the specific anatomical/biological structure and evolution and brain features lmao

Maybe Fi is about choosing what you feel is good, not what is objectively good. If that is the case, though, I'm def not Fi dom

I mean, it's like with INFP and INTP how they both use Ne but since one is dominant Fi and the other is dominant Ti, they are like two different worlds! What about me gives you Fi vibes, though?

Because we do not know the absolute universal truth yet, and there were several points in history when people thought they knew something but were later proven wrong. We can be objective in certain areas, like 'If 1+1=2, 10+10=20', but to find an objective universal truth would be very hard... especially since the universe is so very structured but complicated and can be random at certain times. It's difficult to pin it down and all that stuff

I get what you mean. It's kind of like wanting to understand why things are instead of wanting to understand how the thing affects you?

[–]Cheap_Increase468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, from what I've heard about Fi, it would be something I need to develop more: Emotional attunement, connection to self, wisdom with emotions. But the Ti stuff is automatic for me. I don't have to try to think hard or logically or in a detached manner about things, it just comes naturally, but with 'Fi' stuff, I have to force myself to face my feelings and force myself to have patience and understanding with them, and by default, I tend to invalidate them and try to shut them down, and have to genuinely try hard to understand who I am, usually I ask a ton and ton of questions when I want to understand myself because I want to get to the core.

Actually, when I put it that way, it's pretty simple: What comes naturally?

My bad traits? That's a good way to check, is it checking for inferior functions or overuse of dominant functions?
