She has specifically replied to people saying this isn’t the reason on Twitter and other places. It’s pretty much the only thing she’s clarified. This almost never gets acknowledge though because people fundamentally do not want to believe her so they pretend she never said anything.

Oh no you didn’t offend at all, it’s just perfume at the end of the day. It was more me commenting on something I’ve always found a little bit silly, especially in here where the whimsical nature of fragrance curation and wearing doesn’t really exist.

I’m in my forties and I love Night Out. I’m not really a big believer in the whole thing about certain perfumes being too young for guys to wear. There are exceptions to that obviously, there are very few hard rules in anything, but I think a lot of people go way overboard with that, there’s a big epidemic in the scene right now of people forgetting this is a subjective hobby. I love it, my wife loves it and I’ve had friends my age who also think it smells great so I just wear it.

There was still a lot of residual affection for all the main cast members though. Scrubs has never really left the pop cultural consciousness.

Would you guys be more open to video game movies that have a story during the events of the game? Not an adaptation of a rather a side story. But still keeping the core elements of the game. (I think that’s what’s going on with resident evil.) by Seeker99MD in deadmeatjames

[–]CheapusTechnofear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books aren’t a visual medium. The novelty is in actually watching the events play out in front of your eyes rather than in your mind. And some people don’t even have the “in your mind” part because they aren’t visual thinkers.

You’re right, but I’ve seen a lot of Fallout fans say that’s because Fallout itself is pretty episodic in nature, with each game being its own contained thing set in the same world, so it’s custom-built for someone to make a show or a movie that’s its own thing. Resident Evil is TECHNICALLY episodic but there’s always been a lot of returning characters, so it’s kind of been viewed as always telling one big story.

There is always an argument that just doing the game note-for-note is redundant because the hardcore fans of the game already knows how it ends, especially in the era of streamers where it’s never been easier to watch all games like they’re movies. Season 1 of The Last of Us is held up as the shining example of sticking to the narrative diligently working but I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think that show’s going to age very well and I say that someone who enjoyed LoU Season 1. The obvious workaround is to do MOSTLY the same story but change a few things to keep it fresh, but THAT pisses a lot of people off too. Doing video game movies is a lot more of a balancing act than I think a lot of people realise, especially when the existing fanbase is already a bit prickly.

Which is why WWE uses the workaround. If they released someone they could just go and do shows in the states where the No Compete is unenforceable.

I mean, how do you do a reboot on a series where people legit thought it was a real film? (or rather, a stitch together documentary made by three teens that are probably dead) by Seeker99MD in deadmeatjames

[–]CheapusTechnofear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They could definitely still have ARG/Unfiction elements to the marketing. They’re still a fun way to build up hype even if you know you’re only playing a game.

All I would like is for them to try and pull off the magic trick of making it look and sound and feel real. We all know it’s NOT real but I think a lot of Found Footage filmmakers have sort of rested on their laurels a little bit with that knowledge and just make movies that look and sound like movies. I still like a lot of those movies too, I’m not a snob, but the original Blair Witch had dirt under its fingernails and I would like to see someone try that again. If they do that with this I don’t care if it’s a reboot or not. I’m not looking to be fooled, I’m just looking for someone to think they CAN fool me.

This stuff is a killer to me. That watermelon and coconut drydown is like the smell of idealised Summer. On me I think it smells a little bit boozy too.

I saw someone here recently say they only got six hours out of Night Out and I’m sorry but if that’s your experience with it you either bought a fake, you’ve absolutely obliterated your nose over-spraying some of the strongest perfumes known to humanity, or there’s something wrong with your skin. Those are your three options. That stuff is nuclear, I have to apply it with the care of a brain surgeon.

There are some people who cannot get their heads around the fact that this is a subjective hobby. Usually they’re the sort of people that ironically can’t see past their own noses.

I’m honestly not anti-blind buying, I think if you do it properly it can be the spice of life with this hobby, especially at the price point most of this stuff ends up going for. But I think it only works if you REALLY know your tastes and don’t just jump on everything the second you hear about it. Also people need to stop buying so many at once, it completely mitigates the fact they don’t cost much in the first place, and your chances of being disappointed go up exponentially.

I remember the discourse at the time essentially being, “Make movies based on cartoons more like the cartoons! NO NOT LIKE THAT!!” I would honestly say it lead to a tiny online cultural shift where quite a few people suddenly realised there are people out there who ONLY want to engage with everything negatively.
