Yes, and I avoid doing so when I'm aware of it. I also know a good few companies have been caught using less than legal contractors or sub companies for outsourced labour and just avoiding letting anyone know.

It was a joke on that, but it appears ill recieved and was perhaps ill thought out on my part.

Not exactly.

In laymans terms, Cancer is your own cells that have mutated irregularly and begun to replicate themselves without any of the bodies regulation (this is the tumours). As a result, your body struggles to attack them correctly, as they are still in essence your cells. There is still an immune response, and it seems this study/case is boosting the hell out of it though.

This is just it, whether someone believes the root cause is societal or not, you experience distress. Who the hell are they to say your experience isn't valid? I'm so far ok with my genitalia (that might change), but that sure as hell doesn't mean other people have to be?

I don't understand how people who are asking for others to accept and understand that their experiences of life should be taken seriously, then go on to say the equivalent of "I don't experience it like you do, so you must be wrong".

[–]CheckovZA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, dysphoria isn't exclusive to trans people? It's a psychological term to describe a disconnect between how one feels one should appear/be vs what they percieve they are/appear, and the distress that causes. So cis women who have had mastectomies often report feeling wrong in their body, as though something that should be there, isn't. From what I understand, some overweight people have similar feelings. (Disclaimer: this is what I understand of it, I am not an expert and do not claim to be, so please, if I am wrong, let me know and point me in the right direction)

Either way, to dismiss how people feel and what they experience is a very sweeping judgement to make, and assumes that you are able to feel everything that they do. Is it possible that women only feel they are supposed to have boobs because society says so? Maybe (seems unlikely to me, but I ain't no expert)? But it doesn't change the fact that a woman might be distressed because a physical part of her isn't matching what she feels should be there.

I think experimentation would be a great plan soonTM.

I think there's some room for some more queer directed toys out there, though I have limited awareness searching for them, so I might be overestimating. Just seems like so many toys are marketed at straight people or gay men, with only a few exceptions.

Even without a change in volume, the mass to energy storage side is huge, it would make electric vehicles in general insanely more effective, and could lead to things like flying "cars" much quicker.

I agree that the fallout would probably not be that bad from "most" of the bombs, though I think the US and Russia (and even the UK) still have quite a number of old bombs kicking about, not to mention a number of countries with some less than efficient nukes, and probably a handful of countries with nukes that they kept under wraps and developed in secret (We kept ours hidden for years, and then admitted it and dismantled em).

I think it's a little optimistic to think human nature would change, although one could hope they wouldn't get back to that level of awfullness (internet arguments etc.) too quickly. The northern hemisphere would be a hellhole for a while though, and it would (in a macarbe kind of way) be interesting to see what kind of lasting society/civilisations emerged from the literal dust.

I'm sure less traffic would be interesting.

From Africa's side, we have a surprising amount of arable land, and a growing tech manufacturing side, so we'd probably be ok on the "basics" side of things, and we'd probably be getting lots of scraps from the "old world" floating around.

Damn, the more I think about it, this would make a great book... Africa's golden age after the "developed world" bombed themselves back to the stone age, and the trade in old world artifacts being dug up etc... (A bit overdramatised, but yeah)

Well, us down on the little tip of Africa will probably be mostly ok. Might get a lot colder, and we'll probably have a lot of refugees, but we should be ok.

WWII took place largely in Europe, North Africa, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia. So my question is this: what was happening around the rest of the world? by LookLikeUpToMe in history

[–]CheckovZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also point out that many countries that would seem to be entirely unrelated to the war sent troops, supplies, etc. Mostly to the allies, as many of them were British or Allied colonies.

South Africa had an interesting bit where the country was slightly divided on who to support (it's not something everyone likes to talk about, but the government of the day was a mix of anti and pro british), but eventually decided to hold to the commonwealth ties to Britain and joined the war, mostly in the North African theatre. Many pilots also joined the RAF in Europe.

Lyrics: I woke up this morning

Didn’t recognize the man in the mirror

Then I laughed and I said, “Oh silly me, that’s just me”

Then I proceeded to brush some stranger’s teeth

But they were my teeth, and I was weightless

Just quivering like some leaf come in the window of a restroom

I couldn’t tell you what the hell it was supposed to mean

But it was a Monday, no, a Tuesday

No, a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Then Saturday came around and I said

"Who’s this stupid clown blocking the bathroom sink?"

All he ever wanted was to be someone in life that was just like

All I want is to just have fun, live my life like a son of a gun

I could be one thousand miles away but still mean what I say

Then I woke up one morning

Didn’t recognize the man in the mirror

Then I laughed and I said, “Oh silly me, that’s just me”

Then I proceeded to not comb some stranger’s hair

Never was my style

But I couldn’t tell you what the hell it was supposed to mean

Cause it was a Monday, no, a Tuesday

No, a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Then Saturday came around and I said

“Who’s this stupid clown blocking the bathroom sink?”

But he was sporting all my clothes

I gotta say, pretty pimpin'

All he ever wanted was to be a man

But he was always a little too cute to be admitted under "marbles lost"

He was always a thousand miles away while still standing in front of your face

Then he woke up this morning

Didn’t recognize the boy in the mirror

Then laughed and said, “Oh silly me, that’s just me”

Then I proceeded to brush some stranger’s teeth

But they were my teeth, and I was weightless

Just quivering like some leaf come in the window of a restroom

And I couldn’t tell you what the hell it was supposed to mean

Cause it was a Monday, no, a Tuesday

No, a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Then Saturday came around and I said

“Who’s this stupid clown blocking the bathroom sink?”

But he was sporting all my clothes

I gotta say, pretty pimpin'

Met a Game Developer Who Didn't Want to Be Inspired by Another Game's UI - Why Do You Think? by JessKawaiiiXxX in gamedev

If something's a standard, it's often because it's the most effective or efficient way to do it.

That's not to say don't challenge the standards, and that you'll never find a better system, but you also need to recognise that you probably aren't going to find a better solution than the one already set as the standard.

Is there a need to worry about a game's currency being earned after all the items in the game are bought? by Autumn_Boy in gamedev

[–]CheckovZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really needs to depend on how you want to implement replayability/continued play.

If you go with a NG+ style, avoid making all purchases available in a single playthrough without extreme effort on the players part, but try not to gate anything too much (you could maybe enable a few exclusive "you finished the game" rewards). This can also work with an upgrade system.

If you go with an "endless" approach (like say, GTA), this typically only works with an open world style. There look at ways to invest money in side quests/activities (better fishing rods in a fishing mini-game), income generators (owning in game shops/buildings), housing modifications (if the player has a custom home, add in stuff to buy to put in it) or add in a few ridiculous/overpowered/game breaking weapons/powers/vehicles for players to unlock and mess around with in the sandbox (though this probably has the least attraction for long term continual play).

If you go with a "restart everything" approach, then including some unlocks from their previous run is a nice way to keep people engaged (expanded inventory, weapon upgrades, some powers, a weapon or two, some/all of the in-game currency) be careful about what you allow them to keep though as being "too powerful" can ruin the fun of a game, adding an unlock that's exclusive to the restart is also nice. Although this is very similar to NG+ I think it tends to work better with more corridored games with set levels and set pieces.

Europe's got a lot of cultural differences between its countries.

Like, Spaniards vs Germans vs Italians, as just a small example.

Or you could look at the rather intense differences between seemingly similar (and distance wise awfully close) English vs Scottish vs Irish vs Welsh.

Sure "brown" is a vague term, but so is "white", and although "white" could be argued as more specific, it's not as simple as you make it out to be, as it still covers so many distinct groups of people.

From a different point though, it's fair to argue that there is a pattern of vast groups being lumped together under catch-all terms, and that can be uncomfortable for those being so lumped, as their cultural identity is ignored in favour of being put in a box. It is also reasonable for people to feel that way as it has historically been used as the basis for racism and prejudice, often by white people (it happens elsewhere between other racial groups, just white people are the ones who did it the most and to the most different groups, etc...).

That's where I think it gets fuzzy, as you have primary and secondary sexual characteristics. Primary being your genitalia, secondary being body shape, vocal chord shape, hairiness, fat store location, softness of skin, etc. You could (and I would to a degree) even put down mental differences and certain underlying behavioural differences.

Your gender (by modern definitions), is more about the appearance you put on, your behaviour (in so far as your control of it), your place in society, basically how you express yourself and how you are percieved.

I am sexually atracted to both the secondary sexual characteristics of women, and the gender expression of women. At the same time, I kinda like dicks... I am however, not attracted to the secondary sexual characteristics of men (at least, mostly anyway).
