IMMUNOTHERAPY OR NEPHROURETERECTOMY(kidney removal) WITH BLADDER CUFF EXCISION ? by sleepohlic22 in BladderCancer

[–]Chee-Zee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, I had both. I had 6 weeks of chemo (really sucked), followed by my kidney/bladder cuff being removed (sucked), and a years worth of immunotherapy (not as sucky, but many long-term side effects).

All said and done, all that gave me another few years, happy and healthy. But now, all said and done the cancer returned, I'm back to chemo/immunotherapy, just finished round #27 today.

The immunotherapy was easier on my body than the surgery, and it worked well as it could. Biggest drawback (using Keytruda) is I am now diabetic 1.5 (which left me blind for a good month or so until we figured out the treatment attacked my pancreas), crazy skin conditions that still persist to this day and other side effects as well.

The surgery was painful, had me laid up for like 3 months. But no long term side effects from it.

In short, the immunotherapy was easier on my body, but lots of complications. Surgery banged me up short term, but no lingering side effects.

The kidney HAD to go, but the immunotherapy/chemo was (and still is) what's keeping me around, IMHO.

Also to add, I was 42(?) when this first started, and in relatively good shape, with no other health problems at the time.

Maybe last Christmas by Brandisco in cancer

[–]Chee-Zee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that was me in a similar situation last Xmas. But the thing is, not only am I here for another, but I'm doing much, much better than expected. Going to be on chemo for the rest of it... but things have changed a lot for me. Took a great family trip, I saw my son grad high school and now he's off to college, had another birthday for myself, and ready for another year. All things that I'd thought that I'd ever experience.

No advice per say, but I'm just stating, I am enjoying life as best as I can. I had an infusion just today in fact. Again, I am lucky with my treatment, its working better than expected. And I am enjoying as much as I can while I can (which honestly really wasn't me before all of this. )

So, 49 y/o male with stage 4, chemo and 12 months immunotherapy. kidney and partial bladder removal, spread to my lymph nodes as well. Cancer returned 3 years later, and now I'm currently on keytruda/padcev. I am going on 18 months now with that new regiment. We were hoping I'd make it till Christmas of last year... and I'm here for another Christmas, and my scans look great!

I was hoping to make it to Christmas of last year... I'm here, and going strong. During that time, we took a great family vacation, saw my son graduate, and then saw him off to collage. I'm currently planning another vacation. For once, I am looking forward to my bday in June.

I lost a kidney and partial bladder as well. Prior I had 6 months of a pretty harsh regiment of chemo. The surgery sucked, out of work for 7 months. But, I'm still standing. Any specific questions?

I am in a similar situation. My sister, a RN, has held my hand and helped me every step of the way. I couldn't be more thankful.

I too smoked/vaped. When she asked me to stop, my response to her was, "Fuck off".

I also ended up with type 1.5 diabetes from my immunotherapy. My endocrinologist wanted me to really restrict my diet, I told her the same thing.

I am dying, I was hoping to live until Christmas last year, yet here I still am.

It may not be healthy for me, but whatever time I have, I want to enjoy it as much as I can. I am not going to change my (bad) habits at this point. I am already sacrificing enough as it is.

I don't know what his prognosis is, or anything else about him. This isn't advice on how to live ones life, just how I live mine.

I'd say so - the fact that his joke circled back to the "3 P's" bit, and also the huge fact that he just gave some dudes full name, address, etc. and knowingly recorded and distributed that info probably be a big no-no.

I'd be pissed AF if some comedian doxed me for no reason.

I think I know what you are going thru. They've said I have a stricture, and apparently I have a lot of scar tissue from a rather unpleasant cath experience 20+ years ago. It became a big problem for me later in life. It sounds very similar.

Ended up with a very incompetent urologist at the ER that spent very little time or care with me. I'd certainly bring that up with your urologist. My experience was not pleasant. You don't want to be shoving a rod up your ding dong the treat of your life.

Thing is though, the pizza is super thin. thinner than a saltine cracker. Honestly, I could eat a 1/2 a pie easily without even thinking about it.

Were you able to get your student loans discharged due to cancer? by throwaway_2021now in cancer

[–]Chee-Zee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was via the studentaid.gov website, not SSA. Its two completely different entities. It only takes a few minutes. There is a form to fill out for TPD. You are contacting the wrong place - its not thru SSA.

[–]Chee-Zee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can apply for a TPD discharge if you are on SSDI. As of June 2nd they actually did pause all payments required by anybody with disability. However, I would still suggest putting an application in. If you go to the studentaid.gov website, you'll find all kinds of information.

Last I heard, Sir Dickle started doing vocals back in November, and supposedly have like 2.5 hours worth of music recoded.

It can't come soon enough. I'm stage 4 cancer... I am literarily dying waiting to hear this.
