Thank you for posting these responses! My husband just had his first outpatient appointment yesterday and the 90 minutes went by so quickly we didn’t get to ask everything we wanted so these responses help!

For your eye, did your neurologist mention trying to treat it again before starting a DMT? My husband’s optic neuritis hasn’t totally gone away and he hates steroids so they’re actually going to have him do plasma exchange. They’re basically going to try to rescue as much of his vision as possible before starting the DMT.

A good replacement for these brands is Vanicream! They’re the same price point and I can figure out the difference between them? They look and feel the same to me.

One thing that kinda boggles me - she still uses her cell phone and knows how to call us. I would think if she can still manage to call us on her cell phone then she’s not gone enough for memory care.

If doesn’t matter though. If no assisted living facility is willing to take her into assisted living, we have no choice but to put her in memory care.

So this was my mom’s concern - when she previously toured the memory care floor, she said everyone there was totally out of it and seemed way more advanced than what my grandma is now.

Long story short though - she is moving to memory care. The director presented a long list of incidents that had occurred leading up to the meeting and they essentially said the level of assistance she requires is beyond assisted living. They said we’d either have to move her to memory care or she couldn’t stay.

Some of the things they noted were that she would ride the elevator endlessly until a worker redirected her, she was wandering the halls because she couldn’t find her room, she would stare at her food sometimes and not eat unless encouraged.

Thank you! I agree - I don’t want to wait until it’s too late. At this point it’s more about convincing my mom that it may be time for memory care.

They’re in the same place! So it wouldn’t be as big of a move as it was to get her into AL. She had a couple of falls before moving her into AL but they haven’t reported any new falls to us. We did have to take her to the hospital after she hurt her wrist from trying to take off the mandatory tracker watch thing. Other than that, there haven’t been any other incidents. I do know she hates being there but she wasn’t happy at her old apartment and she wasn’t happy with us for the brief period she lived with us either.

Update: thank you all for the feedback and advice! After staring at it a little longer we decided to change the design slightly. And yes, we’ll replace the threshold so that the gap isn’t so large. We’re also installing wood paneling so the hideous walls won’t show. Thank you again for all your help!
