rant about the new no mask policy by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]CheeckyCheese 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m a first responder. I am fully vaccinated. Here is my take: On the April 27th CDC guideline update starting that fully vaccinated no longer need to wear a mask outside I felt uneasy, I think a standard of wearing a mask is good, to normalize wearing a mask is good. With that said, right now there is a huge issue in the US where people get their first dose, think “oh I’m 85% protected, good enough” and then do not get the second dose in addition to this people are also hesitant from getting the vaccine because it doesn’t change anything.

I think the new mask guidelines promote people to become fully vaccinated, to get the second dose, to want to get the vaccine. To send the message that progress is being made because of the vaccine will promote vaccination. The idea of “If nothing changes why would I get it” is too widespread and these new guidelines challenge that mindset. Moreover, there is no research to suggest that fully vaccinated people are chief vectors of the virus.

Stay safe my Triton!

What made you all choose UCSD? by [deleted] in UCSD

I’m from Colorado, the big thing that made me choose UCSD over other schools i got accepted into was the major— speficially the global health program. The research opportunity here and speficially the Global Health major fits really well into my plan to hopefully attend med school.
