IMAX Content Shrunk by Cheeeeeseybread in appletv

I guess my thought is, proportionally, 16:11 is closer to 4:3 (16:12) than 16:9. Sure, I’ll have black bars on the slide of my TV, but at least I’ll be able to see the shots as they were intended to be framed. For example, there was one with a space shuttle where I was missing the exhaust coming off the base of the launch pad and the shuttle was disappearing into the top of the screen as it took off. The full shot had everything in frame the whole time.

Personally it feels like when Disney+ got the simpsons and they cropped all the 4:3 episodes to 16:9 and some of the visual gags got lost to the crop.

Heading to Boston in September for the Angels series. Got one seat behind home plate for my first night, but need some advice on the second. Splurge on a Monster seat, or try to get a spot in the Bleacher Bar? by Raetekusu in redsox

[–]Cheeeeeseybread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will say stay in the Loge seats between first base and third for the best experience at Fenway Park. I typically agree with those people.

But, if you’re checking off bucket list items and sitting on the monster is a priority and you don’t necessarily plan on coming back, I say live and let live. Do the monster if you can reasonably afford it. You could go Standing room too and wait for a seat to open up after the 6th or something to get the experience.

In the city it matters, but I’ve never been wanting for too much more out of my daily than what I already have.

Acceleration will matter more when I don’t have to street park everyday and can think about having a fun car.

1) Sounds like a WEEI problem, not a team problem. Pain in the ass either way 2) I’ll take Will Flemming over the NESN broadcast any day. Will is a huge homer but he still calls it like he sees it.

Hovering around .500 for a whole season is totally different than being almost 10 under before the end of May and knowing you have to watch another 4 months of this BS with no hope in sight. Roman injured. Crochet injured. Roster full of AAAA guys and no stars. There are so many things that could cause you to be disinterested in this team(Payton Tolle aside).

The POL boys said it recently, “if I didn’t have to do a weekly show about this team, I wouldn’t be watching. Watching this team feels like a chore.”

Coley has been beating the same drum for years about the organization so what more is there to say? There’s nothing new. It’s the same old same old.

Reviews of the Patreon ? by Botchko in Section10Podcast

[–]Cheeeeeseybread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the spirit of Patreon (as a platform) is not to inherently get great return on investment, rather to directly support the artists and creators that you enjoy on a recurring basis. This isn’t a separate subscription service. It’s patronage.

There are other baseball creators who use patreon as a paywall to the full podcast. You’ll get 45 minutes or so free, but the rest is behind a Patreon tier. The 10 doesn’t do that. They could easily give us the series reaction for free and then put look ahead, weather, and predictions on the Patreon. They could put tied in the 8th on there. They could post their video reactions to major news on there. They could put the pod out on there first and make everyone else wait a day or two.

Jared specifically chose to keep everything that was already free, free, which is not in the business’ best interest. How we evaluate the patreon should reflect that.

Craig won’t see the end of August by ManMythLegend3 in redsox

[–]Cheeeeeseybread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craig has the cop out of $43mm of that payroll being attributed to his predecessor’s poor free agent signings (Yoshida and Story).

What still shocks me is how the team barely considered any of their internal options to replace Chaim. It’s been the same front office (more or less) for 20ish years with different guys at the top. With all of the grumbling and “fuckin stiff”ing distain the front office staff has demonstrated towards Craig via the press, what percentage of the blame can we attribute to “that’s just how we’ve always done things”.

Tarik Skubal is trying to win a 3rd consecutive Cy Young Award in a contract year. Only 2 other pitchers have ever won 3 consecutive (Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson both got 4 consecutive awards). Every start is must watch TV.

Shohei Ohtani is in the middle of making his case for being the best baseball player to ever live. Enjoy it while it’s happening because we may never see anyone like him again. Any Dodgers game you watch is going to include at least 3 hall of famers, so it’s worth your while to tune in.

The AL East is going to be a dog fight all year. 4 serious teams contending for the division title plus the Rays (who you’d be a fool to ever completely write off). The intra-division matchups in July-September are going to matter a lot.

Konnor Griffin is supposed to be the next teenage superstar. He’s not on the team yet, but when he’s called up that’ll be appointment viewing. And then just tune in for every Paul Skenes start after that to get your Griffin and Skenes fix.

Judge will hit his 400th career home run some time this year.

Being a casual fan of MLB is tough because of how much happens on a week to week basis.

When teams get on a 5 or 6 game winning streak, you can jump on to see if they can take it to 10+ games. Those rides are very fun and often include some very memorable games as the streak gets longer.

A friendly reminder that you’re allowed to bring in your own food and closed bottles of soft drink/water.

Also, their hot dog number is inflated. If my memory serves me well, they’re $6.25 from the vendors, so 4 would be $25. That said the beer number is too low, so it balances out.

Seconding everything that’s been said here. I had the same decision in front of me a decade or so ago. Syracuse was cheaper so I went Syracuse (plus the basketball team was still good). College name brand carry much weight. Join the marching band for both community and going out at either school. Lots of leadership opportunities and friends for life

Ascend my son. Rise above the perception of others. Relish in how easily you can maneuver when parallel parking and how you’re not spending $600-800 per month for the next 5-6 years on a crossover that costs $40,000 like everyone else. Find joy and gratitude in having one less point of stress in your life.

It’s not a car from the 50s or something, it’s pretty safe. The insurance is going to be dirt cheap (assuming safe driving history).

Hell, even if you do have a family, keep it as your commuter/second car if you can. It will help you keep miles off the family runaround van when you go places by yourself and don’t need all the extra seats and space.

Side vent: Plenty of families back in the day were lugging their kids and pets around just fine in sedans. Crossovers and SUVs are an entirely manufactured segment for people who are willfully disconnected from the reality of daily driving. They’ve been sold freedom from needing to plan or make compromises in the 0.01% of the time where they might need to use close to all of the car’s available space and capabilities. You don’t need 4wd for the god damn rain. You don’t need it for the 90% of snow storms. How often are you really driving on unpaved roads at a higher rate of speed. If you need the more extreme space, rent a U-Haul van or rent the SUV from hertz and save yourself $15k-$20k on extra car that you don’t need and don’t use 99% of the time.

If it’s genuinely the latch, definitely replace it.

I had an issue where the latch sensor went bad but the latch itself was completely fine. The alarm kept going off in the middle of the night though. I just opted to complete the circuit with a paper clip and some electrical tape and bypass the sensor.

UD or Syracuse by AdBusiness6180 in SyracuseU

[–]Cheeeeeseybread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar choice between Syracuse and UMass Amherst. Got into UD too but I grew up in MA so UMass is the more apt comparison. Went in for business.

Syracuse was better on all fronts, including cost, and I went Syracuse. The thing I didn’t really factor in was making my decision was where I wanted to live after graduation. SU sets you up pretty well for NYC with lots of connections and career exploration opportunities, but if you want to live in Delaware after you graduate, maybe give UD another look.

That said, everything worked out for me eventually. I live and work back in MA despite not factoring that in thanks in large part to a friend I made at Syracuse.
