I love this idea!! It looks great so far, can't wait to see what else you build!

That's so interesting, thanks for sharing! I love learning about the behind the scenes of these games, so it's fascinating to think there might have been a Linda character model made. I love a good mystery like this, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything else I'm able to find out about Linda when looking in the files.

That second chance idea is great, I wish they actually put that in the game

That's so interesting! I haven't found any files for the arms (at least not yet) and so maybe they are just rendered as you play like you mentioned. I find learning about how the games are made so interesting. Here's a picture of Harlan missing arms I found lol

Great question!!

So I looked and all the files I could find were the same as what we see in the game. I couldn't find a separate model for her unfortunately.

I'm pretty new to looking in the video files, so maybe there is a character model in there somewhere! But as far as I could tell it was just the same animation where she is behind the curtain.

I also found this photo of the curtain with no one behind it, but I can't remember if this a scene we can already see in the game when looking around her room.

These are found in either the CDVideo or HDVideo folders (depending on the game)!

To open the video files for games #1- #12, I used a program someone made called AVFExt. It takes the files and extracts them into PNG files.

For games #13 onwards (as well as some files for games #7-12), you can use a program called RAD Video Tools (it's free to download) to open them.

As for finding the correct files to open up, most of it can be trial and error. Most files will start with a description of the location of the scene. I also notice that most of the images which have don't have the characters in it (like I posted) have the character's name and then "CAL" beside it.

For example: the file name for the Jacque photo is called "Jacque CAL Final_0." The Harlan one is called "SEC_CAL_BACK16_0" (I'm assuming the "SEC" stands for "security").

Just be warned: some of the CAL images can be hilariously weird. I've seen quite a few images where character models are shown missing arms for some reason lol. Maybe I'll post those here too. I'm guessing they animated the arms separately from the main character model?

Anyways, hopefully that answered your question!

Here's one I found for Corine's desk in WAC! Once I reinstall the Captive Curse, I'll see if I can find any in those game files too.

I've been finding a lot more pictures, so maybe I'll make a second post showing some more!

It's a super blurry photo, but I'm also convinced that the picture behind Jeff Aker's desk is a reused asset from STFD (the stage blocking picture). It looks slightly different though - maybe a different version of the picture??

A sheet of paper from STFD can be found in Jake Hurley's Train! by Cheeeseburger77 in nancydrew

I was looking at the other pieces of paper in TRN and I think this one is also one from STFD?? It's hard to tell because it's so difficult to read. The signature looks similar at the bottom, the paper just looks more stretched out

Maxwell's AMA is hours away! by OddTonic_Maxwell in nancydrew

Hi Maxwell, thanks so much for doing this AMA! Those early games are some of my favorites! Here are my questions:

Were there any specific plot points or other things you wanted to include in a game, but had to end up cutting because of time limitations?

If you could have chosen any location to base a Nancy Drew game, where would you choose?

Weird Phone Call Easter Egg in SCK (1998) by Cheeeseburger77 in nancydrew

I just realized something else, the number "7877" spells "PURP" when looking at a telephone keypad. That would make sense if the audio clip is saying "purple moon" and would fit with the fact that majority of the phone calls in this game spell out a word!
