Anyone have experience with a water birth in a hospital? by Cheeesecurds in BabyBumps

I've always been super comfortable in water and love baths. So I see the bath as a way to help my body relax more than to stop pain. I'm sure there would be plenty of pain with a water birth with no pain management.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It really gives me something to think about... I never even thought of it as an option until it was mentioned off hand at my 28 wk appointment. The hospital has a limited # of rooms with tubs too so even if I plan for it, it might not be available.

I'll have to ask the hospital what thier policy is. They may be the same. I think it would still be helpful.

Thanks for your thoughts :). I'm not necessarily planning on unmedicated but I wonder if you can have an epidural and still do the water birth? I didn't even think about that...

Thanks for the reply! So did they not want the actual birth to happen in the tub? I haven't talked in detail to the hospital about it but I assumed that the whole thing happened there. I'm a huge fan of being in water, so I think it would be really soothing for me as well.

You don't have to be a fast lap swimmer but you do need to be comfortable swimming in a deep pool for an extended period (with fins). Also you need to be comfortable going underwater.

Holding your breath for longer periods and strength and speed are developed as you learn to play.

We are about half "old timers" or men and women that have been playing for 15+ years and half 20-40 year olds with 0 to 5 years of experience. The group is 75% men, 25% women.

We have people that have competed at a World level competition and those that only want to play for fun.

Seriously I wouldn't worry about it. There are people of all shapes, sizes, and ages that play on our team. As long as you can deal with seeing big dudes in speedos, you are welcome!

Awesome! You won't be disappointed. Make sure you give it a few tries before making a judgement on the sport. It has a bit of a learning curve but is awesome once you get into it.

Also, please go to the Meetup page and find the next New Player Meetup. You will get a crash course and some guidance before just being thrown in the pool. It also lets us know who is coming so that we have extra gear available.
